Hi Dyfrin,
Thanks for the feedback. No arguments on the JavaScript needing to be cleaned up. Now that Gatherer's gone through several iterations over the years, there's bound to be some broken links here and there, but we definitely want to fix them when we can. It would be really helpful if anyone notices any places where there's a bunch of broken Gatherer links to PM me or post about them in this thread.
Thanks all,
Eric Eric, one night, no links work, next night they all do, it was not a 404 error, rather an aspx error about server invalid response. It was most likely that DNS not propagating, so ignore that message, of course links will be broken if dns was not propegated. That then also lead me to believe there was no name to id translation due to the "new" links having ID as the url variable as opposed to the name in the old published content. ID worked, name did not, glad it is both working now!
Will look at the formatting more closely later, just happy to see it all working at this point! It is a huge improvement to the previous version with the side ads and whatnot.

I hate the new gatherer. Grrr!
How can I search for every land printed? I select "lands" and hit go... nothing.
So, I try the search "land" and I get 19 results. 19. As if there were only ever 19 lands printed.
The old Gatherer was very simple to use. With the Simple search, I typed in Land and selected Type, then hit enter. It returned 383 lands. I have no idea if that's every land printed (it only counts one of each basic land but shows all of the sets they were in) but it seems like it.
This forum shouldn't have been made active until it was finished. There's just no excuse for this piece of garbage.

why did they get rid of the old gatherer when this one still has so many bugs?
I selected red and card type sorcery, but it ignored the filter by sorcery
then I went back and did it again, but it didn't work
I did it a third time, re-checking everything and to no avail. The same thing happened earlier when I was trying to filter by artifacts but instead it crashed.
I'm furious needless to say. Bring back the old gatherer or fix this one.

Hey guys, it seems to be working for some of us just fine, not so much for other people. It doesn't appear to be a browser issue.

Hey guys, it seems to be working for some of us just fine, not so much for other people. It doesn't appear to be a browser issue. Hi All,
As Dave mentioned a few posts back, there's a bug with having the "Types" checkbox checked and also selecting a type from the "Filter Card Type" drop down box.
If you want to search for red Sorceries, first make sure that you do not have the "Types" checkbox checked. Then, check the red mana symbol check box under "Filter Card Color", and then select "Sorcery" from the "Filter Card Type drop down box.
Alternatively, you can just type "sorcery" into the search box, select the "types" check box, and then check the red mana symbol check box. Then click the search button.
The autocards links are because Vbulletin caches the parsed version of posts (in this case, the parsed posts contain the old version of the autocard plugin code). Even though I've told it to clear it out several times, a lot of the older posts still haven't updated. I'll take a look at it tomorrow and see if I can clear the whole lot out.
Thanks Kyrna for helping out.
Eric

The old Gatherer was very simple to use. Hi Mellojoe,
In case you didn't see Kyrna post, to search for all of the lands, first select the "types" check box under "Search Card:" and then type "land" into the search box and search. Then you'll see all the lands printed. It sounds like what happened was that you only had the "Name" check box checked under the "Search Card:" label and then selected "Land" from the types drop down box under the "Filter Card Type" drop down. In this case, it worked as intended. It searched for cards where the word "land" was in the card name AND the card was a land type. In this case, there are only 19 of those!
Unfortunately, there's the one bug that's confusing people where the types drop down box is either being ignored if you don't have a color selected or it is overwriting, and subsequently causing Gatherer to display the error page (because it messes up the search URL), if you also have the types check box checked under the "Search Card:" label. You are correct to try to do the search this way as well, it's just got the bug right now preventing it from working. This will be a very easy bug to fix and we'll try to get it out first thing this week.

This description rings a bell -- something about each style getting cached separately. Perhaps I should have added that I was using the "Magic: The Gathering Default" style to view that problem thread. If I change to "vbulletin Default" or "Gleemax", all its autocard links are broken. If I change to the "White" version of the Magic: The Gathering style or "Gleemax 2.0", all its autocard links are good.
No, I am not a judge. That's why I like to quote sources such as the rules that trump judges.

Me again... some new stuff...
1) would it be possible to remove the gray area on the left and the right of the screen? It seems odd that I have to scroll down when there's more than enough room for all the stuff on one page. (Again, it would make seeing exactly what i search for easier)
2) Would it be possible to extend the "Name filling in function" that works in the search bar to types?
3) When you search for something (say all creature's with the word Iron in thier name), it would be nice if you could filter the results some more from the page itself. (Like being able to eliminate the non-white ones).
4) It would be nice if each Block/set had its own page. With commonly searched for things already set out (For example all colored artifacts from esper, or all future shifted cards from future sight). This isn't really urgent, but it would be nice.
5) would be nice to have keywords linked to a rules post about that ability. (For example you see "Flying", you'd click on it and be brought to an area about the rules for flying). This would eliminate the need for reminder text in Gatherer. Another problem that would be nice but isn't really needed at this time.
… and then, the squirrels came.

Eric How come I can't just select "LANDS" from the type list and then hit GO and have every land come up?
If I want a list of every single Magic card printed, can I do that? The old gatherer could... just leave it blank and hit search and it would bring up everything. This new one seems like it won't.
If I pick a Format, I can get every card in that format. Why not "everything"?

You will be able to do that search once we deploy the fix to the bug, which hopefully will be as soon as we can get it tested.
If you want to get all the cards in Magic, you can use the Advanced search and search for cards with a CMC >= 0. I bet there are other ways too, but that's the one off the top of my head!
Eric
On an unrelated note, I hopefully cleared the forums cache to fix all the old threads with autocard links in them. If anyone notices a thread that has broken autocard links in them and you've shift + refreshed that page to clear the script cache for that page, please let me know. Thanks!
