Haha! Finally, a BoaB article about the abuse of Open the Vaults. I'm looking forward to this. :D

Hmm....I didn't notice you had slipped a Cryptic Command into your decklist between games. Smells fishy. And not budgety.

Umm...i could be wrong, but it appears in the third game you cast a cryptic command...which is not in your list and not on budget...what gives?

I am a little confused. Its a budget deck so no cryptic and that makes sense, but in the five color control match he casts cryptic to counter dragons and bounce a land. Now shouldn't he not be able to play a card that isnt in the deck lol.

I'd like to point out, to anyone that read the article this line from the "vs. Five-Color Control" section of his playtesting: "When Chris gets to fourteen lands he decides to play a threat in Broodmate Dragon. I want to see if I can induce a counter war on his turn so I attempt Cryptic Command countering the Dragon and bouncing one of his lands (each of those fourteen may be very important)."
Now... if this a budget deck, how was Cryptic Command Cast? It shouldn't even be in the deck. I know that in this particular match up that if Broodmate was countered or not it probably made little to no difference in going off, but still, it seems irresponsible and an injustice to the other readers to say you cast a cryptic command when it isn't even in the list for the deck.

lol, i think three of us just made accounts for the forums just to point out that error.
But, to stay constructive, the budget list still looks good, but im just afraid it's a strict downgrade from the real lists out there. The article seems uncreative, and just like that sanity grinding deck list you posted a few months ago, this is simply better w/ cryptics.
Still, i like your replacement cards, and i may whip this one up for my local FNM. Sounds fun, like your SWEET Second Sunrise deck a while back.

If the best countermagic isn't budget (and combo decks as well as control decks want to run it), and the best red and white aggro creatures aren't budget, and the best lands aren't budget, then it's really not very likely that he'll be able to make one of the best decks on a budget. All he can do is settle for making a good deck.

I really like the deck.
But as all you last few decks include "old" block cards that get rotated out in 3 months I won't invest in cards for those decks.
Building on a budget does not mean to me building a deck you can only use for another 3 months. I would be happy about a really creative, nice deck, like this one but without Lorwyn or Shadowmoor cards.
