That versus system game had a pro tour like that, What happened to it? Actually I like the idea of the PT being split up like this, I also really like that there is going to be a limited season soon

Vs. was put on life support and their pro circuit was cut. You can see the same double format pro events on the World of Warcraft card game now though.
I really like these changes. Although I would have preferred one constructed, one limited, one split, and worlds, I largely agree with this change. Nationals has always been one of my favorite events because of its dual nature, and this is no exception.
The locations are amazing and really excite me. I have wanted to go to Japan since I was a child, and Honolulu is one of those Pro Tour locations spoken about excitedly with multiple people always chiming in "man, I wish I would have qualified for that one." Rome is great too.
I do have one question though, because it wasn't answered. Will the new multiple format pro tours be like Nationals where it's split on day one, or will it be day one constructed day two limited? I'm hoping for the former, personally.

Man, what a cool idea! I'm probably going to try and catch more PT coverage now.

A lot of casual players see Limited play as kind of decadent, I suppose; they want more info on cool new decks or little bits of tech on how to make their Elf, Kithkin, and Mono-red decks better. I think that this is complete bull****, but if it IS true?
Thanks, Timmy. You made the PT more enjoyable for me too.
Acquisitron 9000 made a good decision for once, in my opinion.
If you search the net for archived Magic articles from that era you find a wealth of tournament reports from all the top players. More than half the players in the Top 32 of that event contributed detailed articles about how they approached a degenerate format where Tolarian Academy was legal yet Savannah Lions still managed to make the Top 8. God, what a missed opportunity to link to reports and make people curious about the Pro Tour <_<

I have to agree with the watchability of Limited. A big part of it is because I just don't know the cards that well, and I have to keep pulling up autocards (which often aren't even enabled in coverage) to know what's actually being done. Constructed is a much smaller mindspace; even with a wide open format, there aren't that many cards to know.
And then there is the question of how much takeaway there is. It's not quite as straightforward as Aaron (condescendingly) suggested: here's a new card for your Elf decks, go get it! But clearly constructed decks inspire constructed decks.
A split format sounds fine to me. I just hope the coverage doesn't simplify it into "here's the top 8, and their decks, so therefore the best 8 decks." Which would be an easy mistake ot make.

This upsets me immensley, as someone who focuses almost exclusively on Limited play. I would've been much happier with 1 Limited, 1 Constructed, and 1 Split, but making all 3 split just seems convoluted to me. At least the PTQ's and GP's will remain unaffected by this.

Hmm.
Limited Pro Tours are more skill-testing, but Constructed Pro Tours are more exciting and reward preparation more heavily. Making every Pro Tour a combination of both? That's an interesting idea. This may somewhat hurt amateur players trying their hands on the Pro Tour, though. We aren't usually as good as the pros are when it comes to Limited play.
This should be interesting, I think. I believe it will be one of those "wait and see" things.
