Why not? Rarity doesn't mean a thing with this precon set, except for people drooling over the Mythic symbol. Heck, they could even dub him Common with no effect on the market value at all. Close, but not quite. Rarity means exactly one thing in this set - flavor. And in the flavor department, making Lord of the Pit the supposed counterpart to Akroma and a mythic rare is pretty weak.

My New Phyrexia Writing CreditsMy M12 Writing CreditsAs far as the benefit of the rest of Magic is concerned, gold cards in Legends were executed perfectly. They got all the excitement a designer could hope out of a splashy new mechanic without using up any of the valuable design space. Bite me, but I like that Akroma art. Just the way she holds that sword looks a bit odd..

I have no problem whatsoever with androgyny, particularly in a race such as Angels which has every right to be genderless altogether. Seriously, why should the messengers of a divine power ALL have teats? Only half of the populace is inspired to worshipfulness by this, you know! (Granted, it's the half that contains most Magic players, myself included, but still; let's put most of the sex appeal in Red and Green and Black where it belongs, mm?) Well, Angels are supposed to be genderless and we all start out as female in the womb, so I've just always looked at Angels as being half-baked - like most women.
Yes, I made a genderist comment and it was even about my own gender. Get over it.

I don;t like the Akroma art at all. Guess I am not alone there. But they did a great job with Luminous Angel. I have to give credit where it was due seeing as I have bashed them considerably already for such bad Akroma art.

There is a thread in general about this very topic. I won't drag my comments all the way here, but I have to say this sums things up nicely. I find it hard to believe they were hurting this much for a black demon to put on the box.

Her face looks weird, her hand placement is weird, and the way she's holding the sword is weird. She just looks very awkward to me for an Angel.
Luminous Angel, on the other hand, is fantastic.

I love Angels, but I'm just not digging that Akroma, too Lilith-esque. The Luminous is much better.
[edit: wait, a belly button? um.... why?] I agree that the "logistics" of an Angel's origin should preclude one, but I think it's more of a meta-statement against censorship like this
In most episodes, Eden wears her revealing "Jeannie" costume. Censors allowed her to be depicted living in a house with an unmarried man (it was made plain that she slept in her bottle), but would not permit Eden's navel to be seen. I imagine artists just take some pleasure in showing female navels after that.

'Genderist' isn't a word; the one you're looking for is 'sexist.'
Shame on you, Kyrna! :P

Wait, really? We do? I never knew that...oh, wait, are you talking about how eggs only have the female gene? Actually, I was playing around with the fact that both ideas are theories without proof either way.

But I wasn't talking about sex (sex is a verboten topic on these forums [as if that has ever stopped me in the past!]), I was talking about gender. If other people can make up new words and new definitions for long-established words, so can I! :P
I'd like to add my voice to the cacophony of "that Akroma art sucks spoiled, maggot-infested lemons!" Seriously, who did that art? Even more importantly, who approved it??? Akroma should be awesome, not absurd looking. I can't actually read who the artist is but when I can, I'm going to search for all of that person's art and see if the rest of it sucks as tremendously.

It's by Chippy, who is usually awesome (Summoner's Pact, Xth Upwelling, Footsteps of the Goryo) - but this one just sucks.
