Am I imagining things, or was Randy Buehler supposed to be done after Worlds?
Also, does anyone know the name of the guy playing his first Constructed ever? Poor job not to mention his name.

Chapin and Cheon? any reasons why they didnt made the trip? I can't speak about Cheon, but from what I read from LSV's articles and I think a little bit from Worlds coverage said something about Worlds being Cheon's last tournament for a while. I guess its real life stuff (maybe school?).
For Chapin:
To Whom It May Concern,
Thank you all for your support. I regretfully must report that I will be unable to participate in Pro Tour Kyoto, as I was denied by Immigration upon attempting to enter the country. I am technically allowed to enter the country, however Japanese law grants discretionary power to immigration officers and due to an incident from my past, an immigration officer decided to deny my entry.
I am in no legal trouble and have done nothing wrong in this regard, however, I will not be able to enter Japan until I get a special type of Visa that will take me a couple months to obtain.
I am truly saddened by this turn of events and only wish I had known the situation prior to this trip. I had been advised by an authority that I would have no problems, but it turns out they were mistaken. I will take it upon myself to do all the necessary research myself in the future so that this never happens again.
Again, thank you to everyone who offered support while I was addressing this issue and for the enormous amount of positive energy from everyone. I have dedicated most of the last 2 months of my life to mastering this format and am deeply saddened that I will not get to compete against the best in the world in this format, however I will be cheering for everyone, especially ManuelB, Heezy, Nassif, Oli, Wafo, Parke, Antoine, and MJ every step of the way.
Good Lucks Guys! Win one for the Gipper!
I will be attending GP Chicago and plan on attending all PTs and Constructed Grand Prix this year, including all international events. This was a pretty bad beat, but I have bounced back from worse. See you guys Monday!

The use of Twitter really illustrates how much lag this is in updating the site. Just now it says they are a couple minutes from announcing the top 8, which means round 14 is almost done. Yet the latest info on the page is the round 13 pairings.
Not that it's a big deal. But it does take some of the shine off of live blogging to realize that.

On the other side of the spectrum, what's Martin Juza's worst PT finish as a professional player? It seems like all he puts up are top 16s or top 32s.

Shouldn't the Spellstutter be forced to counter the Agony Warp?
EDIT: To explain: -At the end of LSV's turn, Tanahashi Agony Warps a token -In resp, LSV Path's the Clique; Spellstutter comes back with Warp still on the stack -Spellstutter isn't a may ability; the only legal target was Agony Warp, so it should have been countered.
Not that it matters now with LSV having won.

End of Game 2:
Tanehashi Agony Warps a token.
Luis plays Path to Exile on Clique.
Could Luis not have played Path in response, bringing the SpellStutter back into play, forcing Tanehashi to counter the Agony Warp?

Randy, the reason LSV played Kitchen Finks before combat (game 2) is to play around Mistbind Clique, which would have been far worse than Cryptic Command at that point.

While the Nassif pull was epic...I still gotta go with the Jones topdeck...since it ended the game right there. Yeah but remember cruel ultimatum usually ends the game within 1-2 turns of it being cast
At least he set it up better than craig jones by arranging his mana for the mana cost of Cruel ultimatum.

Randy / BDM -- I have a question...
Was the 37th place finisher -- Mattias Anderson -- the Same guy that was known as the "Screaming Swede" from the Greg Raymer/David Williams WSOP Episodes?
I remember he was talked about in those episodes as having been one of the guys that made the jump from Magic to Poker, and made many flambiuoant screaming video footage...

I think the Nassif draw is better because all of cruel ultimatum was used. He needed to gain life, deal damage, draw answers, make the opponent pitch his answers, kill a dude, and get a dragon back. The lifegain in the Jones topdeck was useless.

WAY better. Jones had a bunch of different redundant burn outs to win... Nassif needed exactly Cruel Ultimatum and the way he called it with his mana was awesome. I completely agree...but Jones top deck was way more animated which made it great for fans...so it would go above this one by a lil' bit for that lone fact...and also cause Cruel is a end game card two or three turns before the actual end game...

Great call on a deck by Robinson, by the way. More players should understand that if you aren't one of the best players in the room (no disrespect), you can't play the well-known "best deck" and expect to beat everyone. You have to play a deck with higher variance and higher upside than the best deck.

Good going for both LSV and Nassif. I was hoping Nassif would win, but either way it's good. I think they will both be inducted to the Hall of Fame eventually.

Ivo. hey, it's tied 2-2 right now. don't count nassif out yet.
any anyone saying i'm using the changes in time for my own purposes, this was posted after the fallout left LSV with a single 3/3 and BB.

If LSV plays head games instead of baiting with the elspeth, LSV would have had an elspeth the next turn and would have won.

If LSV plays head games instead of baiting with the elspeth, LSV would have had an elspeth the next turn and would have won. nassif had two negates and a broken ambitions at that point. LSV couldn't pay for both head games and the windbrisk activation (he had 6 mana total). that play wouldn't have won the game.

Nassif and LSV are such masters. LSV for playing this deck to success. I have been trying his and GerryTs BW token decks for months, and just can't get them to work.
Nassif for not countering the Ajani and playing the game absolutely perfectly.
Congrats to both players for just being ridiculous (although I still think Head Games is terrible.)

Congrats to both players for just being ridiculous (although I still think Head Games is terrible.) The deck's popularity is terrible considering it's a very solid deck with multiple ways to win quickly. It does take some practice to play it most effectively but it has several draws that just bowl people over (like the Ancestral-Blossom Faeries lists from last year).
I can't believe that the commentators were pushing for countering Ajani. The fact that Nassif let it resolve, even without knowing about Head Games in LSV's grip, is amazing.
Head Games or Mind Shatter are both great out of the B/W board. Head Games is preferable because you can Heights it, obviously.

Head Games or Mind Shatter are both great out of the B/W board. Head Games is preferable because you can Heights it, obviously. It has some explosive draws, and plays very powerful cards, but it felt like there were a ton of clunky draws as well. It just seems like Fae is a better bitterblossom deck (although getting to play with Elspeth and Ajani is nice. The planesalkers are so ridiculous, I think Nassif was nuts for not having 4 needles in his list.)

The mulligan rules are too punishing and definitely need work. It's game 5, two awesome players with two decks that match up really well against each other: the perfect scenario. And what happens? mulligan, mulligan, and Nassif walks in for the win. Nobody wants that! This happens just after a game they are comparing with the best of all time! What a waste of potential.

Quick comment about the postings of the other top standard decks. Would it be possible to format them in a more readable fashion? By this I mean that all decks from 5-3 to 8-0 is a lot of decks, and it'd be nice to know how each deck did without having to refer back to the results for each round. If maybe the record could be posted in the title, that would be good. Especially in this format, where it is even harder than worlds to differentiate between records for formats and overall records, with constructed and limited rounds both being played each day.

I think it would be more accurate if the short summary on the Magic main page was changed to say, "Nassif, playing in his ninth Top 8, defeated the scorchingly hot Luis Scott-Vargas in an epic Standard showdown after LSV was forced to double mulligan in the fifth and deciding game to capture his second career Pro Tour win."
After the amazing tournament he had, LSV got a very unlucky draw in the final game, as he had to mulligan twice and then was mana flooded, and so he only wins half as much money as Nassif. I know Wizards had to raise the PT winner's payout to match the winner's payout of the VS. pro tour (is that still around?), but I think it would be much more fair if the differences in payouts for the top few places were not so huge.
Also, it's interesting how different the coverage is before & after the top 8 was played. During the first 2 days of coverage a major theme, and one that I completely agree with, is that LSV is on an incredible hot streak, and is almost certainly the best Magic player in the world right now. Now that the top 8 is over, it's all about how Nassif is one of the 3 best players of all time. LSV being the best player in the world right now isn't changed because of how unlucky he got in that last game.

Nassif had to mulligan in other crucial games (even in other tournaments) - this is just part of the game for every person. There really isn't much to do about it. Even without mulligans being involved, sometimes there are draws that are simply "I win" (or conversely, "I lose").
I think both Nassif and LSV are going to get inducted to the Hall of Fame when their time arrives. I'm really glad that Nassif won, he's been such a great player for such a long period. LSV is great as well, and it really seems he's going to continue to do well - maybe in a future event the coverage will say LSV is on of the top players of all time, instead of "just" on an incredibly hot streak.
Ivo.

Nassif won, and deserves to be the center of attention right now.. As good as LSV is, Nassif further cementing his place in the big 3 with Finkel and Budde is the biggest thing of this PT.
You sound too much like a bitter LSV fan to be honest.
