However, that doesn't mean that we can ignore the fact that Welkin Guide is still a five-mana 2/2. Closest parallel obviously being Wurmskin Forger.
As for the pick? Stinger. I love pingers in this format... I think I overrate them slightly, as E-Capsule is on the table, but Bant Charm is not getting taken by me over E-Capsule, and I LOVE pingers, so Stinger. I'd rather be looking to go red than black anyways after one pick.

Bant Charm. Green, White, and Blue are all underrepresented in that pack, with nothing else in there to go by other than the Bant Battlemage and Steward of Valeron. Cut Bant, and hope for either the best, or we end up in Esper or Naya splashing the Charm.

I'd take the capsule. Bant Charm is more powerful than capsule but I don't feel that it's that better.
Charm is great, but who wants to pick a three color card when there's a perfectly acceptable substitute?

Well that pack only has 3 real options. Stinger, Executioners Capsule and Blood Cultist. The stinger is better at the same job the Cultist is hoping for though so we can take that out right now. In the end I take the stinger because there is no way to avoid passing a LOT of black from that pack and its likely the best card anyway.

Glaze Fiend, Skeletal Kathari and Shore Snapper aren't exactly signals if you ask me, especially at second pick... If you pick the Executionner's Capsule, the only black signal you're sending is Blood Cultist, and it's not a too strong one. It still is something to consider since that pack as a whole is very weak, but I wouldn't hesitate much over that and take the capsule ASAP. Bant Charm is too overcommiting a first pick even if it's better than the capsule when you do have the colors for it.

Vithian Stinger is the correct choice here. This guy is a three drop ping, and makes your opponent have to think more carefully about blocks. Unearth makes him that extra 1 point you need to kill a bomb or finish an opponent. He slots nicely into Naya, Jund, and Grixis. While Grixis isn't powerful in draft most times, both Naya and Jund are solid performers. His synergy with the "Something dies, I get a +1/+1 counter" cycle is amazingly powerful.
Steward of Valeron, Bant Charm, Bant Battlemage, Glaze Fiend, and Blood Cultist are too commitment for a first pick.
Grace, Adept, Kathari, Snapper, and Gather aren't first pick worthy, and most can be expected to be seen again.
Call to Heel is a card that often ends up in my sideboard, but can be a very good last playable.
This pick for me turns into capsule vs Stinger, and I will take the repeatable use guy nearly every time.

I don't usually like to pick a 3 color card first pick, but I'd probably take Bant Charm here. Otherwise, it's a toss-up between Capsule and Blood Cultist.
