The solution is easy if you can't afford goyfs. Play non goyf decks. It's not like goyf decks are dominating the format. Yeah they are top tier but so are other decks. Yes I am one who can't afford goyf. I don't support banning it, I support playing other decks.

4*Goyf = 100$ = no problem. Anyone can get a playset of Goyfs if they really want them. The end. QTF. I realized this when I finally broke down and got some Flooded Strands.
Top 10 most played cards in Extended: # 2741 Island # 2485 Tarmogoyf For some reason, I find this startling.
Call me crazy here, but doesn't Goyf still die to pretty much anything? It does, indeed, die to Terror . But, I would have to say that it killed me on many more occasions than I killed it.

If that still doesn't work then just play standard instead, where Goyf will no longer be usable in a couple months. You're just a little behind. Goyf hasn't been legal in standard since last October when Shards was released. You're point remains valid though. cheers

Honestly though, there is really no reason that anybody should be spending hundreds of dollars on just a few cards.
This game should be playable with less expensive cards. There shouldn't be like, a playset of cards you absolutely NEED to be competitive... It would be a healthier game if you could make competitive decks from a wider variety of cards. As nice a sentiment this might be, it's not really fair. Wizards doesn't set the prices on the secondary market. There's three main issues:
#1. They probably didn't realize how powerful it would be, in both standard and extended. #2. They can't do anything about it once it's printed and out the door, unless they errata it, restrict it or ban it. It isn't broken enough to warrant a banning or restriction, and there's no real reason to errata it. It's just going to be a very strong card, just like Goblin Welder , Juzám Djinn and other similarly powered cards for their time. #3. The reason that they are expensive is because enough people are willing to pay that much to make it regularly sell for that much.
The only way to soften the price of goyf is to provide cheaper and plentiful alternatives... and that risks some pretty hefty power creep if they do that. I'm not exactly pleased at goyf's near omnipresence, but I accept it for what it is.
