Yeah, looking at more than three cards, putting one (or more) into your hand, stuff like that. I'm not sure how to fix that problem, but a card being easy to cheat with is definitely not a valid reason for banning it. Heh I bet a good card mechanic could do serious damage in a paper MTG tourney. It seems like hard core cheaters is something MTG isnt really prepared to handle. I play online as I said so its a non issue for me.
How would you even prove the guy was cheating? Counting up all the cards would be nearly impossible with all the fetches and draws happening...and even then the guy could just say it mustve been an honest mistake. Meanwhile that game is ruined.

Well, even "honest mistakes" are punished pretty harshly. People forgetting the draw on a Confidant often results in a game loss, so I imagine "accidentally" drawing an extra card would be something along those lines. Also, on the levels high enough to be impacted noticeably by a cheater, the matches are really closely analyzed. It's kind of ridiculous, actually. So, if someone gets to the quarterfinals and is found cheating, they get bumped out, banned for life, and the next guy down comes up. Also, I don't think Magic really has the right environment to attract scam artists. You know, a lot of nerdiness, no real glamor. But you never know.

At high levels maybe but everything up to that point could easily be done. WOTC should make official tourneys be played on some sort of MTGO client...maybe they will in the distant future who knows.

Personally, I think the ban list should consist of only Skullclamp and either Vial or Disciple.

On the rulings issue, I think the DCI's rules are too stubborn. Once, my friend got a game loss for drawing an extra card when his opponent, who was playing TurboFog, had a Font of Mythos and 2 Howling Mines in play.

Jitte can't be banned because it's Legendary.

Jitte can't be banned because it's Legendary. Hmm is that true? There must be a bunch of legendary cards banned from the Legends set...
Or are you saying that the fact that it is legendary limits its power enough that it doesnt need to be banned?

If a Jitte is in play and you draw another one, it's a dead draw. The equipped guy still dies to removal as well. You can Needle or smash it too. That, and it's legendary in the it's-just-so-bloody-awesome kind of way as well.
Disciple is VERY strong. It needs to stay out.
Vial, I don't know. I've never played it and the few times I faced it, it just seemed like a noncreature Elvish Piper (obv a better one).
The Legends Legends aren't banned. They just cycled out... >.>

Nah im pretty sure most stuff from that time period was banned under a large "blanket ban". On a completely unrelated note I can remember what a disappointment fallen empires was as a set in general. Hymn to Tourach and a couple other cards notwithstanding the set had a lot of bad cards It did have some nice flavor text and lore tho.
