I've played against Gavin a couple of times in some small release events over the last year. Good guy, great player. I don't usually read these articles, but I'll definitely check out this one.

I'll be interested to see this. Gavin's a great guy; he's been just below the threshold of pro player for a while, so it's great to see him go and win a PTQ with a pretty innovative Faeries list.

@Eventide's impact on block: Stillmoon Cavalier, easily. It's great against 'blossom, it's tough to remove, it owns Kithkin and generally dominates combat.

Great interview! better known as Lesurgo on countless Magic forums Hehe - and it goes a bit further than that. The dude's a living legend in terms of his involvement with the Magic community. I don't know where he finds the time.
It'll be fun following the PT coverage with someone playing who I really want to do well. Lesurgo may be holding back on setting himself targets, but I'm hoping he does well enough to get some feature match coverage. (No pressure, Gavin! :D)

This is the best TWTW in a long time. From one MTG podcaster to another, congrats on qualifying for the Tour, Gavin.

I listen to the MTGCast on Salvation. the podcast is pretty good. Its awesome to see someone you have actually heard and that posts regularly where you go get in the "goods". GRats to you Gavin.
As for Eventide. Well I'm gonna go out on a few limbs.
First Faeries gets a few good cards, It will be good still but there is a few contender decks that may give faeries a run for its money in block.
Second Red/White Aggro. I've only conceptualized the deck but with the current red and white aggro cards it maybe fast enough to beat down.
Third is Combo. Yes with this set we had several Combo pieces mostly green with a few red/blue cards that could surface as One Hit wonders. people will play them as a surprise deck and win a weekend or two once word gets out people will know about them.
And Last but not Least, Blue Mill. I said it. I honestly think with the new Mill card and the existing Merfolk backbone that mill will be a contender for the top spot in the coming block constructed tourneys.
As for Individual cards. This Set has been dubbed "bad" Why? because many of the cards in the set do not fall neatly into place in current builds. Because of the Nature of Enemy Hybrid and the design space that the fall into, the cards themselves Are build around cards. Which Is great for the current Meta. People should get out of there Net-decking mindsets and think outside the current decks. everyone is always amazed by the Japanese or the europeans because of their new "tech" deck. Its cause they are not lazy. They look at the format and the new "information" available from the latest set and try to see how these cards can be used best to add to the current game state. In Deck construction its much like in making the right play in a game. Seeing what the best option is and using it.
I Like the new set. beyond the fact I'm Izzet/Boros by nature, The cards an cycles push us towards totally new archetypes. Which is good. No one wants another Necrowinter or Ravager Summer..

I think that Stillmoon Cavalier, Unmake, and Raven's Crime could all help Doran Rock type decks a great deal. The G-B and W-B filter lands would support this as well. Ward of Bones is an interesting control card, but I can't see a deck built around that being better than Faeries. Maybe it would be good in a mill deck because those don't play as many permanents. Merfolk got a whole lot better with the addition of Wake Thrasher.
