There are no further jokes to be made about the title.

There are none, or you don't want to have to see any? I'm betting it's the latter.

And so people say to me, "How do I know if a word is real?" You know, anyone who's read a children's book knows that love makes things real. If you love a word, use it! That makes it real. Being in the dictionary is an artificial distinction; it doesn't make the word any more real than any other word. If you love a word, it becomes real.

With one hour before the article is posted, I'll guess the topic will be Eventide's Spoiler: Show
enemy hybrid
theme. I don't think Shadowmoor was even out before the theme was guessed.

So what is the most important thing? Delivering what the players expect...

Humans crave familiarity... People embrace old things and are afraid of new things. Now, give your new things context with old things and suddenly you're in business.

"It's like a good card game meets a ****ty rarity system!"

(Okay, so I'm more against it because I don't trust every Mythic to be unplayable and hence inexpensive, preferring to avoid Tarmogoyf Syndrome when possible... but hey. Whatever floats your boat.)

Interesting article. I was reminded of several things.

First, the comic book "The Thunderbolts". For those not aware, Thunderbolts #1 had a huge twist on the last page. It went on for a while, eventually got a new author, started to get less and less popular...

So what was the problem? The newer author decided to throw in a big twist every issue, because that was what "defined" Thunderbolts. Except that it really wasn't; even though the initial twist was important to the premise, after the first issue the changes in the plot were more subtle, not shocking. In other words, the whole point was well-told stories.

One other thing I was reminded of...Some of you may know the name "Vince Russo". Enough said there, I think.

And finally...when I took a class on comedy in college, the basic idea was "transgression". Sometimes this means surprise, but sometimes it's transgression about the idea of sticking to a particular format. Mark, you've already talked about how if you repeat something enough times, it stops being funny, then becomes funny again...Maybe that's because after a few repetitions it doesn't seem transgressive because it's happened frequently, but then after a few more transgressions people are amazed you went that far.

...anyway, the point is, I'm not surprised by enemy color hybrids in Eventide but I'm still looking forward to them.

Until then, may you know the joy of having your cake and, well... the eating it part is just gravy really.

Cake with gravy? Gross.

I must object. It's not icing, but frosting, that belongs on cake.

(Insert regional American dialog debate here.)

Yes.

It helps that R/W, R/U and U/G are my favorite color combinations, so any set where those get to play makes me happy.

This was a great article which certainly deserves more than a 1 AM response from me, so I think I'll set up an expectation of my own that I'll write one later.

First you will be baked, and then there will be cake.
