I just read from another thread that a mana ability is: -A non-targetted activated ability that could add mana to your mana pool -A non-targetted triggered ability that could add mana to your mana pool, that triggers off another mana ability So does that mean that Coalition Relic  's triggered ability isn't a mana ability because it doesn't trigger off another mana ability?

Correct. It's not a mana ability, so it uses the stack and can be responded to.
