Question and Answer

What does deck to beat mean?
A deck to beat [DtB] is a deck that is currently shaking up the legacy format. DtB have a strong grip on the format and their numbers across the format are high. If you are playing in a competitive meta you need to be running the DtB or be able to Beat it.

Whats the difference between a deck to beat [DtB], a deck to watch [DtW] and a deck [Deck]?
You will notice this forum contains 3 different deck tags, [DtB] [DtW] and [Deck]. DtB have been explained simply as decks that you need to beat. A DtW is a deck that has potential and occasionally bleeps on the radar. It is not uncommon for a DtW thread to have been a DtB thread as one time, or be one in the future. A DtW has its status if it has the potential to be a DtB. That leaves Deck threads. Deck threads are established decks of the format but they don't necessarily put out the big win results. It is not rare for a meta to be filled with nothing but established [Deck]s with few DtB or DtW. You should be familiar with these decks as they often are much cheaper to build and tend to be a common match up in many tournaments.

Who decides what category a deck is classified under?
The format and tournament results are what guide thread owners on how to tag the thread that they wrote and maintain. Thread owners in this forum may change a deck's status at their own discretion. Abandoned threads are maintained by me to keep there status current. If you disagree on what tag a thread should be using bring the topic up in a civil way in that thread.

Why can't I start new threads here?
This sub-forum is here with the intent of enlightening and instructing players on the formats environment. Posting is limited to only players who have shown they understand the format and are trusted to reflect that understanding.

How can I have a thread of my own in this forum?
You can open a thread in the normal Legacy forum. You can follow the template used by others in this forum to construct your thread. Include relevant information of the deck and encourage discussion. If you meet the requirements already mentioned in this post it will be a matter of time before your thread is moved here.

Forum Maintenance

If you feel questions are left unasnwered or there is maintenance you believe needs to be done reply to this thread for discussion. As for specific thread tags, discuss them in that decks thread.

Probably need more people, maybe supa_tim and miss bun?

Berserk Stompy is not a DtB. Also, can you remove the old CounterTop thread?

I'll put up a Suicide thread in the near future

Team America is not eligible for DtW status.

Dreadstill is DtW. Merfolk and Goblins can stay DtB.

I think you're right; TA has been having less success than I thought.

I left Dreadstill off of the list because I wasn't sure where to put it. It could go either way, but I'm leaning towards DtW.

Dreadstill is definitely still a DtB. It has been putting up numbers lately and is still a very popular deck. At the Nationals Legacy constructed on Sunday there was 3 including me, I got 1st, another DStill got 3rd, and the other I think got 5th. I'm not sure what was there on Saturday.
I play Legacy only, and a little EDH.

2009
UGr Dreadstill
    1st place KC Legacy Nationals
UGR Tempo Thresh
    ***th place GP Chicago
BUG Vial Affinity
Petal Powered Ichorid
EDH MonoU Arcum'sLattice

I think that qualifies it.

But I think that TA deserves DtW. It isn't putting up numbers right now, but it definitely has the ability to do so. Isn't that what qualifies it as a DtW?

What does being an expert/well-versed person entail?

EDIT: Also, I like the cards at the top of the primers better than the banners. The banners are cool, but I think the cards help give a point of reference, especially for newer players (or players just getting into Legacy) who may not correlate the pictures with the cards. Not opposed to the banners, I just prefer the cards.

Also, does anyone know enough about Dragon Stompy, ANT, and Survival variants (recsur, ATS, etc.) to write p wrote:

"There are some who call me...Tim?"

Go Duke!

I apologize for my lack of grammar, spelling, and coherence in my posts.

Not me. I could write something basic for survival, though.

@Xero: Agreed on Dreadstill.
