I have the two hero books, rules compendium, monster vault and dms kit, I like 4e and don't feel any particular compulsion at the moment to go to Next (if I want old school I have the 1e books and tFor monsters and adventures I would seriously stick to the later products. The monster math changed quite a bit - especially at high levels - so the content before MM3 is a little shakier and harder to use. You may be able to get a copy online though without too much trouble.
