I began this as a Standard interperatation of Modern Jund, but then, card by card, it shifted into a control deck. Lots of Instants and Sorceries for Snapcaster to flashback and many cheap ways to control, protect, and ultimately get out a Runechanter's Pike for a finishing strike, or a Duskmantle Seer/Geist of Saint Traft and protecting it. Ghost Quarter sits as a two-of in this deck, as more often than not I need to pop a Cavern of Souls, Nepahalia Drownyard, or Kessig Wolf Run. Not to mention, many decks - like my own - do not run any Basic Land at all, turning Ghost Quarter into a veritable Strip Mine. It's a Midrange deck that plays like a Control deck with lots of counters, removal, and bounce, yet utilizing almost all 3cmc-or-less spells to have qualities of a...

I love Zombies. I really do. But you can only play the same colors for so long without going crazy. So I'm switching it up. New colors, new archetype. Geist was a Christmas gift! This is a midrange version of the "Bant Enchant" or "Ih8life.dek" that is now very popular because of GP Atlantic City. Slower, but with a much larger top-end and more removal to give it gas. And for the top-end, I've added Sigarda, Host of Herons. Geist and Sigarda both have Hexproof, which is huge for enchanting. Ethereal Armor is the real star, as it feeds off of every non-creature spell in the deck. Oh, and Silverblade Paladin combos with almost everything in this deck as well. Fencing Ace is great as Aura-bait and for fending off aggro rushes. I've also added Elite Inquisitor; the addition...

First I want to start by saying that this is my first blog. It might be a little strange at times but hopefully somewhat enjoyable. Anyways time to switch to the real topic: Golagri +1/+1 counter deck.

Recently, I made my first Golgari deck. Before this deck I had only ever used an odd type of deck centered around Genesis Waves. In an attempt to branch out from my comfort zone of green/white swarm and over run decks I decided to construct a Golgari deck for an up coming tournament. I was actually wondering mostly if anyone might have an opinion on my deck.

Here's the list:

Lands: 27
8 forests
9 swamps
2 Gavony Townships
2 Selesnya Guildgates
4 Golgari Guildgates
2 Overgrown Tombs

Creatures:27
1 Worldspine Wurm
1 Deathrite Shaman...

I have finally been able to win matches in Standard tournaments. Sad, yes, I know. But Lately I've been going 3-1 in daily events and pushing for 4-0 in many of them (I think the addition tonight of Deadbridge Goliath's power and size will push it over the top). This is basically the deck I posted earlier as RtR was about to release, but it is tweaked and tuned for the current metagame. Loaded with +1/+1 counters, it is all about the speed and longevity of Black and Green Zombies. Here is my B/G Zombies variant, "Loam Warriors"

I'm running Cremate in the sideboard as an answer to the rampant Reanimator decks out there right now. Also added to the sideboard, the aforementioned Vampire Nighthawk. It is excellent for anti-aggro with all of the B/R Zombies out there. I took...

Here is my latest attempt at Modern, with some ideas cultivated from PT:RtR. It is a Golgari Ramp/Landfall deck that uses some unorthodox ways of getting it's mana. The Cobras and Tombs are pricey, but the rest of the deck shouldn't be all that expensive for someone to put together. And the way I look at it, when it comes to a deck's mana-base, the investment is ALWAYS worth it.

This deck ramps by using Cobras for their Landfall Mana, Deathrite Shaman for the multitude of fetch-lands and sac'ed lands, and Ghost Quarter to sac-and-search a tapped land to tap the new one that it brings out. This quickly flings out Rampaging Baloths or Ob Nixilis to crush the opponent. I'm working on the sideboard, but this is the primary build. I call it "Rites of Rampage."

This is what my Standard deck looks like now that RtR has released. It is a Zombies-beatdown varient feauturing lots of +1/+1 counters and utilizing Champion of Lambholt interactions to push through monstrous amounts of damage. If I ever decide to impulse-buy something expensive, I'll splash red for Huntmaster of the Fells, or perhaps Gruul will release a strong 4-drop. Until then, I'll keep my current 4cmc suite and stick with B/G. I'm excited to see what it can do!

So, minor intro here: I'm going to start trying to keep a somewhat steady blog, mostly to post deck ideas I have or card comboes I find interesting. I'd use the forums, but most of the people who frequent those are too competitive in nature and just don't understand why or how I find the certain interactions of the cards to be interesting. And usually try to rework the decklist to include every "meta staple" that's currently legal. While some of these decks may be good in a competitive setting, I create all my decks based around ideas that I find fun.

Of course, to really understand what I find fun, you have to know that I am a Timmy Johnny Vorthos. Which should tell you I like big creatures, comboes, and I admire cards for more than just their gameplay value (in this case, flavor; Vorthos...
