This is a blatant plug for MapTool.

If you don't already know what it is, MapTool is a great way to play D&D -- or any other tabletop game -- over the internet. It's an online server and client with an impressive array of features -- zoomable maps, token management, and a powerful macro language. And best of all, it's open source and free.

Well we have these shiney new blogs and other things so the question really becomes what to do with them. For me I have a lot of ideas, and the blog I guess gives me an opportunity to share them with other folks in a simple and codifiable way.

Characters:
I have more character ideas than I will ever possibly be able to play so I'm going to  share those ideas here. My goal isn't hyper optimisation but rather functional characters that should be fun to play. Each character is presented at the start of each tier of play (1st,11th, and 21st levels), with a short RP statement to give the idea behind the character and some comments on how to use them mechanically.

Encounter Triplets:
Ok fair enough people have very little trouble making up encounters all of their own, so these encounter sets

I have been running my first game for the last several months. We meet every other week, usually, on Friday nights. We're usually at a couple of tables in the back of the FLGS. I started off with a group of four plus a DMPC running through the Keep on the Shadowfell. The second time we met, we had a fifth PC, yet Irontooth delivered my first TPK. When the new party formed three weeks later, we had a solid party with six members, none of them DM run.

I ran them through Kobold Hall to start with. That first night, they only made it through the first four encounters. When the encountered the finale of Kobold Hall next session, that fight plus the immediate aftermath ate up our whole night, and was one of the best sessions we've had.

After that, I had laid of some clues leading to Irontooth

Well as I have more character ideas than I will ever possibly be able to play I decided that this was a good medium to share ideas. My goal isn't hyper optimisation but rather functional characters that should be fun to play. Each character is presented at the start of each tier of play.

So here's the first example:

Finnan MacFinnan Halfling Barbarian!

Finnan MacFinnan has the "Ragining Bear" as his totem, raised in the wilds of Tymanther he has learnt to lead the charge against foes, and bring inspiration to his allies through his daring deeds.

Mechanically Finnan has lowish HP and defences for a Barbarian, but its important to remember his Halfling abilities - +2AC vs OAs and Second Chance. You can wait to use Second Chance once he is bloodied or on a Crit if one comes up before he is

Today seems to be a day of initiatives, i saw so many posts and wanted to put in replies about speeding up combat but then i realized that i was typing a massive journal. So there is a few things i want to touch up on.

Round 1, Fight

Ah the age old question of speeding up combat, i remember back in the 3.x days this was a problem for my group, The big problem then was you had to wait 40 minutes for your turn, then roll a 1, and wait another 40 minutes.

So I found this really cool website and wanted to let more people know about it.

iplay4e.appspot.com

You can input your characters there from Character Builder and see them in a cool format on your iPhone and such.  It is really cool.  Check it out guys!

So we started a new Eberron campaign.  We had an old campaign that we were playing and stopped due to things not really working the way all the players liked.  So we are starting new but with the same level character we ended the last game at.  We figured if we don't start at that level (8th level) and started all over at 1st it may be years before we see Paragon or Epic levels.

So we have a new game going, first session went well but due to schedules we are off for 2 weeks.  Although I have found some very broken stuff when I made my character and I am going to post my character here for those that want an ultimate healing Cleric.

August has been a busy month of gaming for me, between GenCon, my RPGA group, and the Friday Night Eberron game at my friend Patrick's. I'll put up the player for that so you can pull up the podcasts from my profile later after I finish this post. It has, however been a most enjoyable month.

So here I am Friday, and to the best of my knowledge, I have no games this weekend at all. It's a foreign feeling to me now. But, I'll make it through. I still have the Character Builder to make characters that may never see any play at all. ;)

Yes, I'm that much of a geek that I do that. I made a Kalashtar Shielding Cleric yesterday even though I'm more of a damage dealer type of player. The idea of making a character who tries not to deal damage but rather heal makes me feel... twitchy.

Heck, even
