PROLOGUE

The ranger Zigoné chased a Vecnite priest out of the Shadowfell, and is now wandering here on the material plane like Caine in Kung Fu. The shade caught up with his quarry amidst a necromantic ritual which would empower the priest with life energy from the Material Plane in order to improve his hold over a small demesne of the Shadowfell.

This profane ritual attracted the attention of local druid Gortalon, a Wilden claiming to be the chosen of Corellon. Regarded by locals as an interesting, well-meaning crackpot, his small army of "battletoads" made it impossible for the priest to complete the ritual. Aghast at the wasted ritual
