I'm a gamer and have been from a very early age.  I started playing yu-gi-oh before I left first grade. Then I started with video games and feel in love with the Halo series. I started to play and compete in tournaments in Halo Reach and I really liked it. Then I was looking for a new game to start playing weither it be a video game or card game. I really missed the competetive aspects of a card game and playing face to face with someone. I started to look up different ones and I liked the back story behind magic the gathering and I realized that it was what I wanted to play. My friend gave me a black zombie deck and I'm in the process of getting a Golgari Guild deck because I feel like splashing green and black. That is why I play magic the gathering. Why do you play?

Let's start by paraphrasing Winston Churchill: hitpoints are the worst possible system for tracking health except all others that have been tried.

Hitpoints are terrible for verisimilitude and an awful reflection of reality. They’re also not particularly good at emulating cinematic combat.

This old argument has come up again and again (and again and again), most recently resurfacing on various message boards due to the continued warlord debates and the option of martial healing. This seems like a topical discussion to write about.

Are Hitpoints Fatigue or Health?

Yes.

And no. Here’s an amusing flowchart on the topic.

Jumping right into the debate, are hitpoints a measure of energy, fatigue, luck, and skill? No. No amount of skill can stop a fire from burning you, or acid

This post is designed to give a basic overview of the guilds, guild mechanics, and some of the useful cards in the Ravnica block. I designed this mainly to fill in some of the gaps in my friend's knowledge, so it will be skewed a bit for that purpose.

Ravnica - This plane is almost entirely covered in city, or former city. The city is ruled by 10 guilds, which all strive for dominance within the vast city.

Azorius, Orzhov, Dimir, Izzet, Rakdos, Golgari,
Gruul, Boros, Selesnya, Simic.

Azorius -- Detain

Detain is a fairly potent ability, it causes a target creature to be unable to attack, defend, or active any of its activated abilities. The drawback, however, is that detain lasts for only one turn (until the beginning of the caster's next turn).
