Greetings... We are pleased to announce the availability of three new Living Forgotten Realms adventures; there's something new to play at each of the three tiers. These adventures are available from the LFR Community Download site (for ADAP3-4, you'll get the LFR adaptation document from the Community Download site, but you'll need to get the actual adventure from Dungeon online, available to D&D Insider subscribers). ADAP3-4 The Five Deadly Shadows The Shou town of Kudoku is in despair. Its magistrate once embodied a set of principles that guided the village, but he was murdered by assassins known as the Five Deadly Shadows. The principles have been corrupted and now protect the assassins. Can you recover the principles and best prevent the town's destruction? ...

Greetings... There are two new Heroic tier adventures available for download from www.livingforgottenrealms.com. One is set near Ravens Bluff, while the other takes place in Neverwinter.
ADAP3-1 The Gauntlgrym Gambit Many have died searching for the lost dwarven city of Gauntlgrym. Now, it seems, heroes have found a way inside -- but they might not live to regret it. A Living Forgotten Realms adapted adventure set in Neverwinter for Adventure Level 4. This adventure is found in issue 193 of Dungeon, part of D&D Insider. Dungeon adventures may be downloaded by ...

I just thought id talk about this. It seemed like a pretty big theme on hiding dice rolls and numbers and i couldnt agree more. I cant say how many times skill challenges turn into a guessing game of which skills to use making even the most outrageous stretch to justify a very loosely associated skill to apply. Hearing words such as "I wanna use arcana to scale the wall" just hurts every time. Anyways i have begun using skill challenge as a hidden mechanic, the party is not to know how many successes or failures they have had but rather have to judge a success based on the events described. But this post will be about social skill challenges as they are much easier to do this with. I have been running my social challenges as a roleplaying event having each character associate in character ...

Greetings... Okay, there isn't actually a bear on stage during the events of the new Heroic-tier LFR adventure WATE2-4 Stage Misdirection (at least, not unless the PCs bring their own), but I've always wanted to use that most famous of stage directions from Shakespeare's The Winter's Tale, and the adventure does deal with the trials and tribulations of a famous theatrical production in the City of Splendors. Note that this adventure uses the Year 2 mustering rules; specifically, it is for the H1 level band (character levels 1-4) and features low tier / high tier versions (see the LFR Campaign Guide for details if you are unfamiliar with the Year 2 table-formation rules). WATE2-4 Stage Misdirection The performing arts have always been popular in Waterdeep, but the ...

Having other things to do, I've left everyone fighting in the Great Cathedral of Mountainroot Temple. The quicklings are just too quick; the trolls are just too slow; and the party is about to find out that the trolls are curiously resistant to fire and acid. I think they're all getting bored of the battle. I know I am. There's nothing inspiring about it, and a three-way battle is a trifle irksome. In spite of injunctions against letting the monsters take the strain, the PCs would be better off leaving the fey to fight the trolls for a time before the latter would probably retreat. "I know we're not allies," said the quickling, "but you could at least make some effort." It's a mean and miserable thing to allow the trolls extra acid and fire resistance. It might not be so bad, but the ...

The party has now reached Mountainroot Temple and fought the Slystone Dwarves and the sirens in a room which is actually 1,000 square metres in size. I'm mentioning this in passing because the idea is that the Slystone Dwarves (actually a kind of malevolent gnome) herd PCs in the direction of the sirens who sing and screech, but the sheer size of the Chamber of Doors and the apparent laziness of the sirens made this unlikely. In the end, the sirens had to come down off their perches only to find that Power and Plot were music critics. Anm. Yes, yes, I know the creatures are harpies. I now have a theory that one of the WotC kobolds got "harpy" and "harp" confused and conflated them with sirens. In fact, "harpy" is derived from a Greek verb meaning "snatch, carry off" and the creatures are, ...

Greetings... I'm pleased to announce that SPEC3-3 Dance of the Sun and Moon, a one-round Heroic tier Core Special adventure that premiered at Gen Con Indy 2011, is now available for download from www.livingforgottenrealms.com.
SPEC3-3 Dance of the Sun and Moon The orbit of Toril's moon often brings it across the sun's path, but astrological predictions of an upcoming total eclipse have sparked great interest. Many followers of Amaunator and Selune have gathered at the small city of Sapra in the land of Turmish, the best place from which to view the eclipse. The worshippers of the Moonmaiden see this as a time of celebration, with their Lady ascendant, while those who revere the Sunlord are less enthusiastic about the celestial conjunction. But it is ...

The Temple Between kicks off with the party going to see Lavinya in the Temple of Erathis in the Divine Knot in Nine Bells. Her main conern is her friend, Haelyn, who's the caretaker of the shrine of Erathis in Tradetown. She also mentions that the senior clerics in Overlook have all been behaving slightly strangely. She doesn't mention any reward for services rendered. While Gunpowder doesn't mind asking around about Haelyn, he isn't going to put out for free, and takes the view that poking senior clerics with a stick is probably a bad idea. (Well, you wouldn't do the same to the Archbishop of Canterbury or the Pope, would you? In fact, you wouldn't get much within five metres of them at the best of times.) This is a cash-for-questions gig rather than free-to-air service paid for by the ...

Greetings... Your Living Forgotten Realms characters can now venture into the deserts of Calimshan in a new Heroic-tier trilogy! The Battlecloak Saga comprises CALI3-01 Malice of Mintar, CALI3-02 Menace of Memnon, and CALI3-03 Agony of Almraiven. All three of these adventures are now available for download from www.livingforgottenrealms.com. We recommend that you play these three adventures in order, with the same character, but you are not required to do so (although you will miss out on a Major Quest award if you don't). These three adventures premiered at Gen Con Indy 2011 and were very well received. We have made a few minor changes and corrections and are now pleased to present them for your enjoyment at public or private LFR events. After you complete the trilogy, please be sure ... |
