Wow. Where does the time go? I've been busy with day to day stuff I suppose, but have been playing Magic as much as I can, which for me is only once a week on average. I had really meant to get that deck list up the following week, but with the holidays and all, I let that slip. Then some short notice travel came up, and other things that married life and three kids will sometimes do, well, just happened. So here we are, about 2 months later, and I'm able to sit down and type about Magic! I was hoping to get at least one comment on what someone would have built out of it, but you can't have it all, can you. Of course, if I were writing for star city games or channel fireball, then I'm sure I would have been writing about how I crushed the PTQ and ...

What can I say? Some days you’re the windshield and some days you’re the bug. Today was my day to get scraped up off a hard glass surface by a rubber wiper after the proverbial car slammed into me at 60 miles per hour. Yuck. I hate bug guts on the windshield, but worse is feeling like them. So what happened? Well, I’m not too sure where exactly it all went wrong, but I think my card pool was too good! Usually sealed is pretty clear-cut. Your card pool is either awesome because of a few bombs and a couple of colors are good, or you feel like it sucks and there is no way you can win with it. The first scenario there usually turns out like you expect, with your 2-color deck being able to do really well. The second scenario ...

I say it’s my second attempt into competitive Magic because I did attend one of the Amsterdam PTQ tournaments last July. I just didn’t write about it then, mainly because I wasn’t that into sitting and reflecting on these Magic experiences, as I hadn’t yet realized the benefit that can be gained through analyzing your play through written words and not just thoughts. You can go on tilt all day long thinking about that play error you made that cost yourself victory in the last round, but that will be all you’re focusing on. I find that when I type and think about the day overall, I can work to move past those things, learn from them and improve. So here we are today. This current PTQ cycle is for the ProTour Paris, information can be ...

Most Magic players on this web community know that a couple of weekends ago was the Scars of Mirrodin Game Day, and hopefully, you were close enough and had free time to attend one near you. This was the highlight of my week, except for maybe trick-o-treating with my 3 kids (cause they get me extra candy)! But seriously, they keep me pretty busy, and I usually can only get my FNM for the week, so anytime there is a Pre-release or other special event, it’s another opportunity to get some good games in. It’s also been hard to find the time to blog about it! I’d like to give a shout out to Gryphon Gaming in Poulsbo, Washington where I play at FNM and attended this Scars of Mirrodin Game Day on Saturday the 30th. The shop is run by a great bunch of ...

Woo! Magic! Woo! Exciting, right? I like proliferate, but I think that the lists trying to abuse it are going overboard. The following is a rough list, but a good one for FNM or the like nonetheless. [deck=U/W Proliferate] 4xSeachrome Coast 4xTrinket Mage 1xElixir of Immortality 4xJace Beleren

Poison is back in a big way, and I'm not talking about the band. Scars of Mirrodin (lead design by none other than the man himself, Mark Rosewater) revives the poison counter win condition with the new creature ability, Infect. Infect looks to be a Black and Green mechanic, and the goal of this post and posts to come, is to explore the design space that the poison counter opens up in these colors, Black especially, as well as the rest of the color wheel. Some ideas... Black: Clarity Venom (Uncommon) Green: Blue: Delirium Cache (Uncommon) ...

Hello and welcome to another exciting article about random decks. OF DOOM. Hmm. Perhaps not "of doom." First, another Standard deck. I'm going to call it "Basilisk Collar.dec". You know the classic [c=Cunning Sparkmage]Sparkmage[/c]-[c=Basilisk Collar]Collar[/c] combo with [c=Stoneforge Mystic]Mystic[/c] Backup, and you probably have heard that you can use blue instead of white to have [c]Trinket Mage[/c] be your backup, but what about both? And another machine-gun to kill creatures? I give you... [deck=Basilisk Collar.Dec] 4*Scalding Tarn 4*Trinket Mage 2*Basilisk Collar |
