"So what do you know about M11 draft that others don't?" That was my question, and one player happy to answer it was none other than four-time Player of the Year Kai Budde. "Actually, there's not much," he said. "In M11 you don't go for specific archetypes but rather for good cards, plain and simple." "Green and red are much weaker than the other colors, they just don't have as many good commons. Basically, the only reason to go in that direction is rares. I just went in that direction and I am quite happy with my deck," he said, flashing some awesome bombs from the second draft which had just finished, "but usually, I consider red-green a trap." Last year's Rookie of the Year, Lino Burgold, had the following insight into the intricacies of M11 draft: "White..." "White ...

This weekend we have got a brand-new format on our hands, one that has never been played before. But wait. Actually, it has been played before. For the past couple of weeks players have been busy on Magic Online trying out the new environment, brewing decks, and testing the waters for this Pro Tour. So how much impact did Magic Online have in shaping the metagame? How much testing did the pros do online? "Not much," said Brad Nelson. "The breakout decks are here. They weren't online. No one's taking his secret deck tech to the online 32-player events. I did some private testing on Magic Online with my friends, though. Two weeks testing on Magic Online, and then one more week here in Amsterdam." Tomoharu Saito had a similar answer when asked whether he used the ...

From the notes of Brian David-Marshall, what do the following cards each have in common?
Boggart Ram-Gang Boartusk Liege Treefolk Harbinger Bloom Tender Thieve's Fortune Quest for the Pure Flame Wall of Roots Honor of the Pure Declaration of Naught
Answer?
They're all sitting at the undefeated tables after three rounds of play. And a free stat from Rashad Miller, diligently pounding away on the metagame breakdown:
How many Needle Drops are at this Pro Tour: A. 0 B. 1, registered in a sideboard because it was the only Extended legal card the player could find before registration ended to finish his sideboard C. 4 D. 16
The answer is the same letter as the one that starts the name of the emirate that has the largest population in the United Arab Emirates. ...

Every player who has ever played a major event knows what it's like to sit down and prepare for the first round. You have your deck, dice, a notepad, pens, inspirational tunes rocking on your iPod. And an unlucky few know the feeling of having a tournament official approach you at that point with match slip, say "Excuse me, are you *YOUR NAME HERE*? Please come with me."
*GULP*
There are few worse feelings at the big show, and it's where Belgian Jan Doise found himself as he sat down to play the first round of Pro Tour-Amsterdam. Pro Tour manager Scott Larabee of Wizards of the Coast had cornered Jan as he was shuffling to begin the day, calmly waiting for a missing opponent.
But luck was smiling on Doise! The Pro Tour-Berlin Top 8 competitor had nightmares of game losses, deck ...

So this wont be the most interesting report , in fact, it wont be at all but I wanted to post some random thoughts about the most recent GPT I attended at Samurai Comics on 107th Avenue and Indian School Road in Phoenix AZ. A whole 16 people showed up , wheee. 4 Rounds cut to Top 8 My sealed was just ok, if I could start with 5 mana on turn 1. Ancient Hellkite, the 7/7 Green dude, Yavimaya Wurm, Magma Phoenix, 2 Chandra Outrage, typical Green / Red beats - but I had no ramp, but whatever, I just had to win 2 to make Top 8. Round 1 - Bye Round 2 - Played a guy who was running an awkward 3 color deck, 2-0 Round 3 - Played, lost 0-2 Round 4 - ID You know what I'm tired, I'll post the rest later with my frustration and thoughts about the draft and the finals. ...
