I had a small request for my Uril EDH deck. Well, here it is, plus comments: Uril, the Miststalker
Creatures: None Focus of the deck is Uril damage 21 General Damage, so no other creatures are in the deck. Note that trample effects appear on many different cards, which is key to being able to pass through blockers. Enchantment: Heartbeat of Spring Enchantress Presence War’s Toll Pyrohemia Mayael’s Aria Reverence Mayael's Aria provides an alternative win condition. Heartbeat of Spring and Enchantress Presence helps the deck run better, whilst all the other enchantments hinder the opponent in various ways. Enchantment – Auras: Moldervine Cloak Rancor Shield of the Oversoul Scourge of the Nobilis Runes of the Deus Spirit Loop Unquestioned Authority Flickerform Indestructibility ...

So tonight we are going to try something a little different for EDH. It will surprise all the nonblog readers but you guys will all be prepared. What we're going to do is randomly assign the decks. Bring your deck exactly as you would play it (otherwise you might get it back) and we are going to throw all the general's names into a hat and you will play whomever's deck you pull. I think this will make for an interesting game as it won't be the same people to do the same things over and over. One of the most fun parts of this should be watching Andy try to play non-black spells and someone trying to figure out what the **** is going on with their board state as they play John's deck. Don't tell anyone about it, because I don't want people to choose the deck knowing this. I don't ...

The first card of Rise of the Eldrazi was shown in todays Magic Arcana ( tinyurl.com/EyeOfUgin) and I am really excited by it. After throwing a good stuff WUB deck together as my first EDH deck, I got excited when talking about a Karn deck with Scott Larabee. I still like this deck a lot, but it is a bit low on the power curve compared to other decks. If the speculations sofar on the Eldrazi are correct I will certainly have a lot of additions to my "Mono Brow" EDH deck and will probably need to add some mana sources! I can't waiti to start "tinkering" with the new cards! ...

Just finished another EDH game (another victory to the Moonfolk!) that had me crossing my fingers right down to the wire. It was also a perfect illustration of why I almost never concede a game before I actually lose. The game was against a Sharuum deck, a Horde of Notions deck, and Gardevior's Adamaro deck (which the Moonfolk faced yesterday and beat--this was the grudge rematch). The Horde player had conceded due to time pressures earlier on, and Gardevior was succumbing to Sharuum's Akroma's Memorial-enhanced minions, at 1 life. I had been lying low all game, trying to assemble combo pieces; I had Hedron Crab and Patron in play already, but had been lacking a second bounceland to really rev things up until just the last turn, and hadn't wanted to tip my hand by partially comboing early. ...

So I've been thinking about building a monoblue Patron of the Moon EDH deck for Magic Online; I went to the bots last night and surprisingly picked up almost everything I needed all at once, and built a first draft right away. In its inaugural game, right after assembly, the entire table got steamrolled by a Teysa deck packing Recurring Nightmare--the less said about that game, the better. But during the second game, completed just minutes ago, everything fell into place, and the Moonfolk pulled it through, in a nicely spectacular fashion. Patron plus Hedron Crab plus two Ravnica Bouncelands is awesomely powerful; I can only imagine how awesome it would have been like if that had been a Roil Elemental rather than the Crab. The deck is definitely very rough; it's quite slow, has very little ...

After finding out that Andy will be out of town on wednesday and Tjaden's schedule got changed I was planning on asking you all if you would prefer to move the game to thursday. I have finally awoken from my post superbowl euphoria so I'll pose the question now. Wednesday or Thursday? Also does anyone want to booster draft? Or would people prefer to cube this week? I would like to get some ideas for different ways to score EDH and cube so that we could have a whole series complete with points, leaderboards, and tracking. I think it would be fun to give out prizes based on this, however I'm not really sure what the best thing for this would be. I've been pondering allowing custom cards on a limited basis where you could have a winner create a card that would be legal (obviously proxied) ...

I haven't posted in a while, mostly because everyone has decided that I should actually do work work this year, but I'll try to be a little more frequent. Got crushed last night in the FNM and I've got to tell you I'm pretty bored of standard. It just isn't a whole lot of fun for me currently. I can't really find a deck that scratches my itch so to speak. It isn't that Jund is too dominant but rather that there just doesn't seem to be enough depth to the format I think. Maybe it is just that I have played too much cube and EDH and can't appreciate 60 card decks full of playsets anymore. On an EDH note, I tore up Akroma and Eladamri and built Tolsmir Wolfsblood. I played a 3 person game with John and Andy last night at Dennys and it was quite a bit of fun to play. The game was ...

So in order to really help get more people interested in eternal and casual formats I'm hoping to start an EDH league here at the store. So far I've had a good number of people show up but once Feburary hits I'm really going to step it up. I'll have the store/league rules written up and we're really going to go at it every sunday with games and pods and duels. I'm also going to have some great prizes.
I just got a Pheldagrif, I'm hoping to stick this in as a wacky general for bant. I can see this going really well combined with all the sick exalted that came out with shards and alara reborn. Rafiq and Finest hour will be hilarious and Green White Blue has plenty of recursion. My red white land destruction deck still has to have 40 more cards cut from it. FORTY!? I'm ... |
