"That must have been Vlerick." Arvindur grins widely, "Thanks lady, he'd love to see us then, I bet. Seen anyone else doing odd things hereabouts?"

"Vlerick, eh? So you know him then. You'd better not be up to any funny business under my window, right? This not the fanciest street in the city, but we're all decent people here. I haven't seen anyone else and I'm not hoping to either, if you can't keep your manners."

"You don't really look the teaching type, if you don't mind my saying so. He didn't look like he's easy to teach though, so maybe your methods are right for him. You have a nice day now, young man, and stay out of trouble."

With a final withering stare, the woman closes the window and goes back about her business. The alley is once more deserted, aside from the Silver Swords. The conversation didn't draw anyone else, loud as it was.

"Thank you!", Arvindur called at the closing window, "Now onto the next spot, I guess. We'll return here at evening to give Vlerick a nice surprise."

The prospect of catching up with the rogue wizard's apprentice puts a smile on the face of Dorian again, who is eager to get his hands on the arrogant cad.

"If that idiot had had a shred of honoour and decency, we might have had this whole thing wrapped up already. Boneheaded moron..."

Zade, remembering the first meeting with Vlerick, can only agree.

The group makes haste to finish their tour of the sites on the map, but their efforts are a bust: sore feet all around with nothing to show for it. Of course, Vlerick had figured the sites out long before them: it's possible he swept the locations first, picking up the other sacrifices before the Silver Swords got there. That will make catching him at the next active point all the more vital.

Muttering Vlerick's name like a curse, Arvindur traveled back to the area Vlerick would likely be returning to. Surveying the place, he sought out vantage points, where the party could watch unseen, even as he surveyed their options. Should the wizard prove hostile, live capture may be rather difficult, unless he was effectively restrained before he could act.

It is impossible to find an inobtrusive spot in the alley itself, but it has only one entrance. Unless he flies in, Vlerick will have to pass by a partially burnt-out and apparently abandoned building that was used for storage. Anything of any value has been carted away by the owner or was stolen, but there is still a lot of refuse and broken odds and ends lying around. The building doesn't offer a good view of the alley itself, but it does have a clear vantage of the entrance. Especially when dusk starts to fall it should be the perfect spot to hide.

Making sure nobody saw them setting up, Arvindur cleared the worst of the debris from the building's entrance, the better to rush out quickly. He then spent the rest of the time training Wolfkin to detect the wizard's scent, in case he used a magical disguise, while the others did their own preparations.

The others' preparations turn out to be a long game of cards, round after round just to kill time. Everyone's keeping a sharp eye on the alley, however, and about an hour after dusk their patience is rewarded (and not a moment too soon, because no-one's able to read the cards anymore at this point): a familiar posture casually walks past the alley, casting the occasional glance left and right. A soft growl from Wolfkin confirms everyone's suspicions - Vlerick's come to claim his stake in the fools' game. The wizard continues past the alley for another hundred yards or so, judging by the time it takes him to come back, but he does turn round and stands at the corner of the alley, looking a bit skittish.

Arvindur let Zade sneak up in the twilight first, getting in position, before heeling Wolfkin to rush out and confront the wizard, lance in hand to disrupt, should the wizard commence any spellcasting,"Wizard Vlerick, you are wanted for investigations regarding the ritual incidents in the city. Your cooperation would be greatly advised. I believe Magister Blund would like to have a word with you regarding the matter as well."

Hopefully, the wizard would come peacefully, if not, this could be messy.

"Wha... Who?
...
You! Idiots!"

Vlerick jumps, completely taken by surprise, and wildly looks around for an escape route before settling his eyes on Arvindur when he notices he has been surrounded.

"Keep it down, you little pest," he hisses, "they'll be here any minute now. Do you want them to get away again?"

Arvindur lowered the lance, and his voice, "You could have seen fit to at least alert Master Blund about the matter even if you didn't trust the Watch to be competent. Get behind cover with us. We'll talk later, I assume this 'they' would be our real culprits?"

The dock creaks as the bustle of the docks continues at its cacophonus bustle. A man steps down off of a boat, towering above the crowd he looks out at Garic's City. Running a hand through his beard he looks contemplatively at the crowd.

.oO(So large a city even this far from the center of its lands. I wonder what these southerns' major towns would be.)

He furrows his brow.

.oO( I need to find somewhere to stay.)

Off he goes looking for lodgings.

"Of course! Who else would I mean?!"

Vlerick blusters on and keeps looking around. The streets are still mostly deserted though, aside from a few housewives coming home and a couple of dirty kids loitering in the small alleys.

"Aaah, forget it. Let's get out of sight already! Quickly!"

With Zade and Dorian blocking his way, the wayward mage is herded towards the ruins the group had been hiding in. He doesn't look well pleased but seeing there's no escape he goes along, muttering curses under his breath.

"So, what are you doing here?" he hisses once out of sight. "You must have figured out this is where they'll strike next: if they see you making trouble, what do you think will happen?"

Taneli

Long strides lead the mage through the city. His soft boots letting the change of cobble stones read through the soles of his feet.

.oO(I bet a man who lived here long enough could tells his way by just the feel of the street in his soles.)

He stares interestedly as he walks past gardens and long rows of houses and gardens. Somehow he has found his way into the realm of merchants and academics. A city with a tower filled with mages. Taneli can see it from where he stands on the street.

.oO(They will probalby be jealous of their power. Book mages allways are.)

"I will have to deal with them that soon."

He speaks and his voice is both cold and musical. But first a place to stay. He passes a fruit vendor hawking apples and pears.

"Merchant, where would you recomend a man such as myself would stay in this city," his voice lilts over the last word.

The street vendor looks up with an appraising eye.

"You sir, I'd suggest you look in at the Last Lich, or perhaps the Fox Boarding house if your looking to stay longer than a few days." The hawker than gives more specific directions to each.

"Thank you for your time." Taneli hands the man a couple coppers.

Hefting his backpack he strides off looking for the Fox boarding house.

Keeping to a low tone, "We found your notes on the matter. I expect Magister Blund would have quite a few choice words for you regarding your private investigations. You'd best come with us to see him, after this."
