Thanks FF for the great comments. My limited experience has found the mechanics of 4e to get in the way of the actual game. It may be that I am completely misconstruing the intent of these changes or that this style of game just isn't for me. /me shrugs I don't find that these rules dumb the game down; rather, I feel that they prevent the game play from really letting the process flow as freely as it could. Again, my opinion! We'll see how it turns out with a different DM at the helm. I'm also playing a different class for this go 'round, and that might add an element heretofore veiled to me behind a foreign rule set. Keep watching -- I'll definitely blog on that experience.
