Moving out of a CE's range. Cpt. Rex.

Sorry if it's been asked as I wasn't able to dig up anything on this...

Captain Rex grants Greater Mobile Attack to those within 6 squares. Would this be legal:

  • Clone begins it's turn 4 squares away from Rex.
  • Clone moves 3 squares from Rex for a total distance of 7 squares.
  • Clone used Double Attack provided by General Aayla Secura.
  • Clone uses moves back 3 squares towards Rex ending his turn within 6 squares of Rex.

Would that be legal and work or does the Clone's turn end after moving those 3 squares and taking his first shot?

Basically, is the Greater Mobile Attack checked at the begining of the turn or throughout the whole turn.
Yes your situation would work. The check is at the beginning of the character's turn. Same goes for Savage-Empathy.
You check for commander effects at the time you go to use them.

Example: You have a commander effect that gives you + 10 damage if you are within 6 squares at the start of your turn you are within 6 squares of that commander effect. You move 6 squares and go to attack. When you go to attack you see if you are reseaving any bonuses from commander effects. Your movement moved you 7 squares away from the commander effect so when you go to attack you would not get the + 10 damage.

You check a CE when you use it. For Greater Mobile Attack (and plain old Mobile Attack) that is when you start to move after making your attack. So if you made the attack 7 squares away from Rex, you could not move after the attack.

Just use Mas ;)

That is incorrect. You check when you use the CE.

Best example: Rakghouls with an Ithorian Commander and Han Stormie and a Varactyl Wrangler.

Rakghoul starts within 6 of the Wrangler and decides to use Charging Fire. Since he replaces his turn while not Savage, he can use CF to move up to 12 and then attack. This moves him out of range of the Wrangler. The Rakghoul then attacks (one attack because of CF). Since he is Savage again, he does not benefit from the Ithorian Commander's CE because you check for a CE when you use it.
You have to be within 6 squares after movement and during the attack. So in this case no. It wouldn't work, your clone is over 6 squares away, unless you have a Mas Ameda who can fix that problem.
In your case you actually wouldn;t even be able to use the double from Aayla as you wouldn;t have greater mobile once you left the 6 square area of Rex.

However, you could do it in reverse of what you want. Start 10 away from rex, then move to within 6, now you have greater mobile attack so you can use all your attacks and then finish with your last 2 squares of movement.

Hope that helps
Dang, doesn't that make using Rex kind of tricky? Ensuring he is in a position of safety that is also reachable for you other squad members. I guess that is why he looks like such a bargain. Nah, forget that even without the CE he is still a bargain...
FYI... here's a thread with NickName's official ruling to the same issue.
