The migration to the new forums eliminated almost my entire OP. Yell Could everyone involved in creating these forums please head-butt each other continuiously for 15 minutes as penance?  Oh and please have yourselves sterilized, and if you've been so irresponsible as to reproduce already, please have your children sterilized as well.  It's for the good of the human race.  If you do this I will nominate you all for Darwin awards.

Here's my latest list:

SB: 4 [ZEN] Mindbreak Trap

Kitten has been testing more than I have, but I haven't warmed up to the life-land manabase (see list below).  It feels too little life gain for so many tap lands.  I will try it again though.

Oblivion Ring handles more threats than Naturalize, but the threats that Naturalize doesn't handle may be limited to threats that Pithing Needle does handle.  Not that redundancy is bad in certain situations - Planeswalker Control springs to mind (they should be packing artifact hate, making 7 answers convenient).  The down side of O-Ring of course is that they can sometimes get their stuff back.  Against the mirror I plan to use counterspells and Quests to insure victory.

Well, just for an idea of where to start, I can give you my current list. It hasn't changed at all for about a week now. The sideboard does need to be tweaked though. I have NEVER sided in the Expedtion - there just has not been enough burn to break through the lifelands.

Doesn't TurboFog auto-lose to control?

This was once true, and probably has been the case for a long time. Today, however, the meta's premier control deck is 5 Color Control - and I believe that TurboFog can actually have a favorable matchup against 5CC. Consider the following list:

This list has as many counters as the typical 5CC deck, and by packing Negate where 5CC packs Broken Ambitions, TurboFog is better positioned to win the counter war. 5CC has typically 5 win conditions - 3 Broodmate Dragons and 2 Cruel Ultimatum. 5CC needs to tap out on it's turn quite often. This means that Broodmates can be Wrathed fairly often (note - I have since removed Wrath of God from the list). Once the turbo is online, you'll likely have enough fog to draw out multiple counters and still get a fog to resolve. TurboFog has little to fear from Cruel Ultimatum once the draw starts (and Reliquary Tower is in play), but laying down a Runed Halo naming Cruel is a good way to keep them busy and draw out their Cryptics or other counters. Jace Beleren is also a distraction, and will draw a lot of attention unless they draw a Pithing Needle, but is not essential for TurboFog to win. You may already recognize why TurboFog has the advantage against 5CC, but if needed I'm thinking of writing a short guide on playing that matchup.

Aggro-control is more difficult, with more threats and more reliance on the counterable fog cards. The premier aggro-control deck is Faeries of course, but Merfolk can be a problem too.

Volcanic Fallout is the great red hope against both of these decks. An uncounterable sweeper is invaluable against them. Faerie's Comes-into-play effects make Remove Soul important, to avoid being timewalked by Mistbind Clique especially. I haven't tested against these decks extensively, and it remains to be seen how well they can be dealt with. I hope that this topic sees some useful discussion in this thread.

You can ask...

Seriously though, I've explained why.

Please do come back and post here when you've got something to contribute.

Well, I do see what you're trying to do.

I might recommend a mono-white deck utilizing Ajani Goldmane, Elspeth, Knight-Errant, and Knight-Captain of Eos. Elspeth provides a soldier a turn for the Knight's ability. Also, while you're fogging it up, you're gaining life from Ajani, building up for his final ability.

Also, perhaps add in Lich's Mirror and Oblivion Ring. That way, when you're near dead(perhaps by a burn deck), you can o-ring a Planeswalker or Knight-Captain, and the Lich's mirror will let you keep that thing around for the second go.

(My friend, Elf, plays a fog deck that he calls "Captain Douchebag", named after the Avatar that Ajani summons.)

I've mentioned the soldier version, but I'd love to be able to post a decklist - do you have one?

Lich's Mirror seems... unreliable. have you tried this approach?

Think your friend would post the "Captain Douchebag" list?

Smog is the way to go.
Well, in todays meta anyway.
I've been running this deck for almost a year, and I can say that a splash of Black for Sleeper Agent, Spiteful Visions, and some other things are great.

I have like, a ton of lists. Mostly just to experment with a splash with different colors.
I could post them if you like.

My concern about TurboSmog is that it is extremely vulnerable to it's own cards. A timely bounce of the Runed Halo naming "Spiteful Visions" can kill you before you finish your draw step. 5CC runs enchantment destruction MD, and any deck with a Cryptic Command can do you in just as easily. I see this as a compromise of our matchup against control, which is already shaky.

TurboSmog does finish games much more quickly, which can help against many decks including control. I'll have another look at this.

In the meantime, could you post your latest TurboSmog list? I could use a good list for the OP.

Is this really deserving of being an archetype? I mean Fog's obviously never gunna be T1 but I mean really, has a fog deck EVER won a tournament (regionals and up) in the last 3 years?

I don't think the word Archetype has anything to do with tournament placements.

There was a TurboFog deck that top8ed a few years back. I'd have to dig to find that.

TurboFog is an Archetype because it is a recognizable type of deck and strategy that has been played for many years.

Sleeper Agent is very annoying.
I played games where people would WoG themselfs because of the damn thing.
I was going to make this archetype...however i believe that Hoofprints of the Stag is almost needed to make this deck competitive anymore. and believe me it makes the control match cake, 4/4 flyers every other turn just about matches control enough to mill their ass. ^^

Well that is just my 2 cents.

EDIT: Also TurboFog's Biggest problem is Fae which is still a HUGE deck, i can go at far it saying that it is a 10-90 match up, if they don't have a mistbind clique the turn before you banefire FTW from thier Bitterblossom damage, you can win, but that is really they only way it is happening.

Besides that I can say a good player can do quite good against ANY match-up if you are a good pilot.
I think i only lost to crappy homebrew decks, fae, and SOMETIMES 5cc.

Though this deck hasn't WON in the last 3 years, i have noticed a high amount of top-8s when it was bigger.

which is a lot more than you can say about some decks.

I tried it, and it's in my side for control type decks.
It's alright, but nothing major that makes the deck what it is.
5cc and fae is this decks worst match up, for sure.
Any control deck for that matter, 'cept bord control (as said).
I'm not too sure about Boat Brew, however.
Burn isn't a problem once you side in Tenders and Red hate.
Mana Ramp is easy, same goes for WW and Tokens.
Not sure about Dark Bant, never played against it yet.
Dark Bant is pretty crazy you need early fog and have MD removal for Gaddok Teeg
Oh no, the dreaded % Color Control!

Cool, thanks! Got a sideboard? Any info you can offer on matchups - especially the various control decks?
Attitude reflects leadership.

I guess I should give it a try again. It is very different from the general strategy of the deck, and it never worked well when I tried it before. Depending on your build, it isn't needed against 5CC - but I can see where it would help against Fae.

Fae is bound to be a tough match. Fae is hard for just about everyone - but you're right, we have to try to have SOME kinda game against them. Volcanic Fallout is perfect, and if we could run 8 of those I think that would just about do it. Speaking now of my deck in the OP, if Fae is more common in your meta VC would replace WoG.

Someone mentioned Teeg - VC handles him pretty well too. Fortunately Dark Bant isn't running Shield of the Oversoul.

Try the deck in the OP out against the Nassif 5CC (I think that build will become the most common build). It is well in TurboFog's favor, imho. And that is VERY encouraging. Fae will certainly be tougher than 5CC, but I have high hopes. I tried a similar sideboard against Merfolk, and that went very well. More testing is needed, and I hope we can work out a way to have some real game against those decks.

What does that mean??

Cool, thanks! Got a sideboard? Any info you can offer on matchups - especially the various control decks?

Side:
1 Infest
3 Story Circle
3 Hoofprints of the Stag
4 Oblivion Ring
4 Burrtion Forge Tender

Match ups:

RDW: Pre-side, they're going to burn you as fast as they can. Not much you can do here but Ruined Halo on Demi or maybe a Burn spell if it becomes desperate. Side in the Tenders for sure, same for Story Circle to help with the burn.

White Weenie: Very simple. They're going aggro, and nothing more. Keep fogging 'em and they will get annoyed. Story circcle in side if needed.

5 Color Control: Very hard. They barly go aggro, and all of your deck is aggro hate. Watch out for Cruel, it's there main win con. Side in Hoofprints to try and help the match up, with Howling Mine and Spiteful, the tokens come in quick against 5cc.

Mana Ramp: Easy. They get out as much mana as they can for Broodmate, Threasher, and some other things like Banefire. Ruined Halo on Banefire and you're fine. The most they can really do is Shock you with Volcanic Fallout. Side in O-Rings for Garruk.

Tokens: Another easy match up. They go all aggro, so it's not that hard for them to get annoyed. Try to get rid of Ajani and their life gain, it can slow down Spiteful. Side in O-Ring for Ajani, and Story Circle if needed. Also Infest for obvious reasons.

Fae: Hardest Match up. This deck can destory Fog no problem with t1 Thoughtsieze, t2 Bitterblossom, t3 Jace, etc.
Side in Hoofprints to try to improve the match up. Don't count on it though.

Boat Brew: Unknown. Side in Tenders, and O-Ring for Ajani V. Maybe side in Infest.

Dark Bant / Zoo: Unkown. Get rid of Gaddok Teeg asap
Oh no, the dreaded % Color Control!

Now I see what it means - it means that you would rather be male genitalia than be helpful. You might consider keeping that fact to yourself.

I said that because somewhere in the original post, 5 Color Control had % rather than 5.
By the way, I love TurboFog. It's just so silly.

I eventually deciphered that and fixed it. Sorry for the harsh reaction.

I've recently encountered a lot of people who say that they love TurboFog. Most say that they have never run it at a tournament or anything, and give me the impression that they'd feel a bit silly doing so. I'd like to see TurboFog become a viable tournament deck, and I hope to find people who are interested in helping me find out.

I would, however my meta is 5 color control heavy so it's hard.
Before 5cc was out, all I did was Fog aggro decks, it was so much fun to see them getting angry.
However the most I played with it torny wise was FNM.
Never played Provs/States with it or anything.

Do you have Cryptics? If so, I believe your meta is primed for you to take advantage of! Check out the list in the OP; I created that list specifically for a local meta that is 5CC heavy. Check the 2nd post in this thread too. If you need any more info let me know. If aggro players get angry playing against TurboFog, imagine a 5CC player beaten by TurboFog!

I've been playing TurboFog since the Conflux release, and i must say i love it.

I haven't played against Dark Bant or 5CC yet.

Faeries, Boatbrew, and Mono Red Burn so far have been my hardest match-ups.

10-90 vs in favor of Burn. So far i just haven't been able to compete with it. I don't see much running around but evertime i've play against it i've gotten totally destroyed. My only suggestions vs this are life gain and Hoofprints of the Stag. I hadn't thought of Hoofprints as and answer until i read this topic. I'll try out Hoofprints and come back with how it went.

Vs. Boatbrew you usually need to get out runed halos pretty quick then pull out some back up counters. Brew just has too much direct damage.

Against faeries the matches are usually 40-60 in favor of faeries. Usually i draw out their counters with holy days and angelsongs then drop a pollen lullaby or Batwing Brume after they try to counter. Remove Soul is a great sideboard.
If they do drop a Mistbind its usually best to try to holy day at the beginning of their upkeep and hope they're not gripping a counter.

I don't think i've ever lost to an aggro or combo deck before using Turbo-fog.

I've also thought about putting in Twincast in the side against counter-control and ramp decks that pump out a 20dmg Banefire.

Other than that its been amazing so far. It drives most players crazy and is also a good multiplayer deck.

Also I play on a budget so i'm not running cryptics, wraths, or all of the dual lands.

I tend to think of Boat Brew problems as being limited to Ajani Vengeant, Siege-Gang Commander and Banefire. But I guess there are some builds that run more burn. I wouldn't expect too many of them, since Path to Exile was printed... but I guess your meta has at least one Boat Brew with more burn?

That's not a bad record against Fae, especially considering that you didn't mention Volcanic Fallout. I like Remove Soul against them.

Twincast would be great to have against some decks. I have the problem of what to cut for it though.

Would you mind posting your list?

There's only 2 Fae player's where i play and both of them drop Mistbind at the beginning of my turn to lessen my chance of gripping a counter thinking i won't have mana next turn. Then i turn around and drop a land and Holy Day during their upkeep. They're both really slow learners especially seeing as I'm the only one running a Turbo Fog deck in my area.

That's funny - although I'm kinda sorry to hear they're not good faerie players. Maybe they can't believe you'd draw a land every time? ;)

That list looks pretty good. What is the SB Boomerang for?

I've actually been thinking about a W/g/r based Turbofog deck. I'm thinking it may have potential since Dawnglow infusion appears to be a very potent lifegain spell. While it is no Martyr of Sands it can give that critical life boost earlier than Beacon.

So here is a speculated decklist

My Trade Thread Control capabilities are in all the colors. The difference is in the way they say no.

Dawnglow infusion might be worth running. I have reservations about the sorcery speed, and the temptation to tap out. The need for green mana. The fact that the life gain is relatively small in the early game - but it's good that it expands with your manabase - but again it is tempting to tap out, or nearly so.

I like your mix of WoG and VC maindeck. You run a lot of fog; you could trade some of that in for counterspells.
