What is Etherium Snare?
Etherium Snare is a deck that focuses on the synergistic abilities of cheap artifacts, made cheaper by Etherium Sculptor. This artifact Banneret also allows the deck to drop a large number of artifacts in a span of few turns, maximizing the effectiveness of this deck's many finishers, such as Glaze Fiend, Master of Etherium, Salvage Titan, and when Conflux is legal, Esperzoa.

There are many nifty synergies you can exploit, such as having free Mind Stones and Chromatic Stars with Etherium Sculptor out, and bouncing your cantrips with Esperzoa for more juice next turn
Why should I play this?
If you liked Mirrodin-era Affinity, this is the deck for you. It's extremely explosive, getting T3-T4 wins and is as fast, or even faster than most aggro decks, and with a significant amount of must-answer threats (10+), control has some problems against this deck as well (if it gets to the late game).

If you like to laugh at peoples expressions when you suddenly beat with a 11/12 creature on Turn 4, then this is the deck for you.

Cards To Use
Creatures
  • Esperzoa - Acts as free buffing for Glaze Fiend, and even better if you bounce a cantrip. With Sculptor out, the drawback isn't just free, it's a benefit instead.
  • Salvage Slasher - A fattie, but can easily be removed with the low toughness.
Non-Creature Artifacts
  • Chromatic Star - Color fixer, if your manabase isn't simple enough already. A cantrip to fuel more artifacts, and is free if Sculptor is in play.

  • Springleaf Drum - allows for more shenanigans t1 Titan, t3 wins, etc.
  • Executioner's Capsule - T1 removal that buffs Master of Etherium. Your opponents normally won't be able to remove it fast enough.
  • Dispeller's Capsule - Bitterblossom and Oblivion Ring hoser, amongst other things. An SB card
  • Mind Stone - Acceleration that functionally costs with Sculptor out (you play it for , and it can also generate ). Chaining a few of them together will not only buff your Glaze Fiend, it'll also quickly accelerate your mana like any other green deck.
  • Pithing Needle - Good SB answer that's plays other roles in this artifact deck.
  • Sculpting Steel - Ineffective on its own, but is very good when copying a finisher. Could be win-more.
Spells
  • Thoughtseize - Clears hands of disruption.
  • Agony Warp - Removal
  • Terror - Removal
  • Esper Charm - Flexible spell, but not recommended unless the manabase can take it.
  • Profane Command - Deals the last few points of damage after your fatties have beat in the early turns. Also can reanimate another finisher or grant evasion.
Conflux Spoilers
Esperzoa
Artifact Creature - Jellyfish (U)
Flying
At the beginning of your upkeep, return an artifact you control to its owner's hand.
4/3

Salvage Slasher
Artifact Creature - Human Rogue (C)
Salvage Slasher gets +1/+0 for each artifact card in your graveyard.

Playing the Deck
This deck plays a bit like a mix of Affinity and Threshold, playing a lot of cheap artifacts that cantrip into more cheap artifacts. You normally want Sculptor down as early as possible (but it depends on the matchup), but you want Glaze Fiend to be dropped even earlier, because it often gets at least one chance to hit the opponent, so use that chance to buff it up as much as possible.

Don't play colorless artifacts on turn 1 (eg. Sigil, Star), because you'll rather save them to pump the Fiend later on, unless you don't have Sculptor and have a Master of Etherium, in which case you should play them early.

Don't keep a hand without a Sculptor unless there's Master of Etherium, or enough artifacts to fuel your Glaze Fiend. Never keep a hand with no threats (Fiend, MoE and Esperzoa). Salvage Titan doesn't count.

Don't put all your eggs in one basket, especially if your opponent can nuke your beaters (especially Fiend). Don't overextend your creatures, although you can overextend your non-creature artifacts.

Examples of T4 wins
T1: Land
T2: Land, Fiend
T3: Land, Sculptor, Chromatic Star (cracked), Mind Stone, Mind Stone, Elsewhere Flask, beat for 10
T4: Flask, Sigil (for 2, after equipping = 1), MoE, beat for 10

T1: Land, Capsule
T2: Land, Sculptor
T3: Land, Fiend, MoE (4/4), beat for 2
T4: Land, Stone, Flask, Sigil for 4, 7/8 Fiend & 7/7 MoE and 5/6 Sculptor beat for 19

Or alternatively, Profane on T5 if you draw a lot of lands. Or Titan T4 after combat.

Examples of T3 win
T1:Land, Drum, Thopter, Drum
T2:Land, Sculptor, Fiend, Fiend
T3:Land, Star(pop), Thopter, Flask, Star(pop), Flask, Swing 21

Matchups
  • Red Deck Wins: 27-13
    Pre-SB: 50-50
    Post-SB: 60-40

A difficult matchup. RDW could stall this deck long enough to gain the upperhand.

Pre-SB, start out of the gates ahead of the pack, and be careful, but don't hold back too much. They can burn off your Glaze Fiends and Etherium Sculptors, but when you go off, you can drop multiples or copy them, making their mana and burn count for nothing. If they do stall you, then you have to try and recollect yourself before they hit their full tempo. Also, a turn 1 Salvage Titan proves a lot for them to handle, and distracts them long enough for you to go off and win.

Post-SB, board in Thorn of Amethyst. Again, out the gate, but dont hold back too long. If you land Thorn then they cant keep up and you can steam ahead.
  • 5 Color Control: 17-4
    Pre-SB: 60-40
    Post-SB: 70-30

5cc just cannot keep up with this deck's speed, and their hardest hitting play is Condemn, which doesn't hurt us at all. From testing, they cannot recover from a turn 1 Salvage Titan.

Post-SB, Thorn of Amethyst comes into play again along with Thoughtseize if you think you'll need it. They'll board in their extra sweepers/Condemn. Its the same as game 1, but a Thorn on the field shuts them down.
  • Faeries: 23-10
    Pre-SB: 55-45
    Post-SB: 50-50

This deck is too fast for Fae, especially when you play first. Their only option is to stall and counter your threats. Bitterblossom can only get 1-2 chumpers out, and also hurts them as well, making the dck's job easier. Agony Warp can pop off a creatures, but again we usually have more than 1 threat out when we go off.

Post-SB, Thorn of Amethyst comes into play here, and Thoughtseize may also help. Most Fae builds tend to sideboard in more removal and Thoughtseize. They can stall long enough to gain control, but a Thorn hinders them, and Thoughtseize clears their hands so you can go off without worry.
  • White Weenie: 14-4
    Pre-SB: 60-40
Post-SB: 60-40 (will drop to 50-50 when conflux becomes legal)

This deck is as fast as WW, and packs bigger threats. WW has very little MD removal, so there's nothing much they can do except to hope that this deck runs out of steam.

Post-SB, Executioner's Capsule can pop a creature in your way, but there's no real need to even SB against this matchup. WW may sideboard in Stillmoon Cavalier to stir up some problems, but just bash with a Master of Etherium or a Sigiled creature. Sideboarding in Oblivion Ring can give them some room for air, but this deck can still handle the extra removal.

Conflux brings in Path and Celestial though, which will hit you hard if they can get their targets right.
  • W/x Token variants: 19-8
    Pre-SB: 55/45
    Post-SB: 50-50

Pre-SB, it's a shoot out to whether the deck can power out the win, or if they can produce enough chumpers and pray we don't draw into Profane Command.

Post-SB, Thorn of Amethyst helps and Thoughtseize can pick their hands apart. They bring in more cheap removal, and can stall into a swarm

ill through an aka, i was just referring to the explosiveness of the deck.

Huzzah.

I like the deck, its pseudo affinity... but less broken because its not a permanent position.

I'll work up a post conflux list once the set is spoiled. Salvage Slasher will be a required card to have any later game presence if you go off and don't win.

Why none of the Capsules in the Pre-Conflux deck out of curiousity?
i rather play the card when i need it rather than let it sit, get popped before i can use it and waste space. My meta is more affected by Warp/Terror atm. So its a meta call.

Like i posted on trump, ill be testing this deck out tonight. So far we are working on trump, but il be here to 11:30 my time and its only 5, so i got some time to kill. Well we have 2 drafts tonight, but all i have to do is collect cash and pass out the prizes.
Match-Ups added, now dont say, oh do you expect me to believe that.
Ive tested 20 games each so far and plan testing alot more.
I would recommend running 4 [C]Arcbound Ravager[/C]. They're pretty good in an all-artifact deck.
I would recommend running 4 [C]Arcbound Ravager[/C]. They're pretty good in an all-artifact deck.

ignores troll, next.
~ You want Sculptor down on t2, then the fuse gets lit.
~ Even if a win-con gets popped, theres plenty more, and usually you draw into several win you go off.
~ Going Off: Usually turn 4/5 is when you go. Heres the fastest i have gone off,
t1: land, Star
t2:land, pop star, play Sculptor
t3: land, Fiend, and finally Masters, swing for 2
t4: land, Star x2, popped Stars, Thopterx2, Profane - opponent at 16, swung for 16 GG.

Actually, I've always played Sculptor T3, unless the opponent can't deal with it. Dropping Sculptor T3 right after Glaze Fiend T2 leads to mad shennenigans like Mind Stone into Mind Stone into Kaleidostone into a 8/9 Glaze Fiend, that can attack. An extra turn of early beats is crucial in some matches.

Also, Star should be dropped after Fiend & Sculptor are down, because that's free two extra damage.

I still think Capsule > Warp, because firstly, it normally can't be removed and is a good 1-drop, secondly, it can deal with as much, maybe even more creatures than Warp.

Also, screwing up the manabase just to splash white for Esper Charm isn't worth it, IMO. Especially with Sanctum, since CIPT will hurt your speed. Filterlands will also lead to mulliganing. 21 lands is a good number, from my testing.

Also, could you please shorten all the spaces between the sblocks? I'm a neat freak.

I understand capsule, but a meta full of w and b/w token at the moment has me testing warp. Worked out well so far, as fas as the splashing white, at first is was for canonist also, but that got turned into thorn, i think that UB is going to work around O-Ring and Runed Halo, they stall for a turn, which may be all they need to get going and this deck doesnt have the best late game presence out there xd. Again its a testing thing.
SB would look something like this.
4 Thorn of Amethyst
4 Thoughtseize
4 Meta-Filler/Conflux Answer
3 Pithing Needle
I like dropping white as well.

My original intention was to go mono black with artifacts, but the sculptor makes the deck explode.

I plan on trying to use Glare's list, minus Ornithopter and minus Sculpting Steel to go +4 Relic of progenitus just because it can keep churning the deck. At least pre-rotation.

ornithopter is a house and allows for us not to be too dependent on sculptor. Steel just adds a back up win con.
Hey, I'm currently testing a bit more creature-based version, check it out:

Sometimes it's done really well, sometimes it just flat out fails.
Some cards I'll open for discussion:

Any thoughts on improving it?
Honestly, the wizard sub-theme just hurts the deck as you want artifacts for Masters, but Skill Borrower, Windwright Mage and Sculpting Steel all work out.
Springleaf Drum is a good idea. Kudos to you.

OP revamped, thanks to Glare aka the neat freak, lol.
I can't wait for Esperzoa. It's an extra +2/+0 for each Glaze Fiend each turn

I had a deck like this in mind. I second Springleaf Drum.

T1 - Drum, Ornithopter, Drum
T2 - Etherium Sculptor, Glaze Fiend x2
T3 - OMNOMNOMNOMNOMNOM

I like Mind Stone in this deck.
1 Sculptor = free. Cycling - 2
2 Sculptor = +1 mana. Cycling - 1

That 7/11 Leviathan is an artifact creature with shroud and trample. Comments?

I'll throw a decklist together. But remember when Esperzoa was spoiled? I put down a list like this on the second page of that thread.

EDIT: I'm gonna go out on a limb here and mention Icy Manipulator. I know it's not aggressive, but it could help out our midrange match-up. Tapping down big threats or big mana-sources. I've always liked the card, and it costs less than 4 with Sculptors.

EDIT2: Loxodon Warhammer x2 deserves an honorable mention for the late-game. It gets your titans past the chumpers... it makes Ornithopthers and un-pumped Glaze Fiends aggressive... Makes Sculptor better for things other than having cheap stuff.

Drum='s t3 wins, xd.
As for the Leviathan, Titan is bette, as its free most of the time.
Oh noes. Now all my creatures can be Glaze Fiends...

An excellent suggestion. for Banshee.

xWkDcLwNx, you need to add the numbers for matchups! Actual win-loss ratios, remember. :D

I know im waiting till i get more testing under my belt, its not fair to others if they see the match-ups like they are now and build the deck, mess up somewhere get raped by another deck and then come in here and start a 3 page argument on why we were wrong, i played 30 games so far, i gota work today so ill probably have 60 under my belt by the end of the day, ill post more accurate match-ups then, possibly have a banner too.
didn't Veji post this deck like two months ago?
if you are referring to sick salvage, then its not the same deck, he used titan as a finisher in a CONTROL deck, this deck is no where near control, its combo.
He didnt pilot into turn 3-4 wins more like turn 8-9.

heres your link Sick Salvage
I am upset by you (or presumably Niche) listing travis barker as the generic drummer in the deck name for the sblock posted. I'm truly disappointed...

Lol, i meant no disrespect to him, i meant that hes one of the best, fastest drummers alive, but he cant hit the drums faster than this deck. Drums really does give this deck t3 wins.

T1: Land, Drum, Thopter (tap), Drum
T2: Land, Sculptor(tap), Fiend(tap), Fiend
T3: Land, Thopter, Star, Flask, Star, Flask, Swing for 21

Now i know its a little far-fetch'd but you'll be surprised how many times i have hit T3 wins, all thanks to drums.

If not the deck will be set up for T4 just remember not to waste your gas if you know you cant hit the t3 win.

No, no, no. You misunderstand. I'm not disappointed because I thought you disrespected him, I'm disappointed because you picked such a crappy drummer...

Its opinion but we all can agree of John Bonham, or Dave Abbruzzese, hell Alex Van Halen, and plz tell me you dont think they cant hack it.

John is in the top 5 easily, but overrated, dave is good, but not obscenely good. And I'm not even gonna get started on van halen. They're just sooooooooo bad...Seriously, you've gone this long and haven't mentioned keith moon!? Hello best rock drummer of all time. Now if we're talk about other genres also, and especially about fast chops, then buddy rich is undeniably just tons of tiers ahead of everyone.

true true, but we need to stay on topic.
Neil Peart of Rush begs to differ! Back to the deck though. Have you thought of adding Tidehollow Sculler and Thoughtseize to the deck. Both would help pave the way for your win uncontested.

Knew this one was going to come up. Neil is clearly a top 5 candidate based on his sheer chops, but keith takes the #1 uncontested because he created rock drumming. Without Keith Neil is nothing. Neil tried to obtain Keith's previously unachievable sound. Back to da deck:

Show
court homunculus
viable?

The deck is going U/B, both of them are good yes, but slow down the explosiveness. Well, thoughtseize is already in the SB.

and for Court, well for a 2/2 or 1 for potentially a 10/11, 12/13 etc....

Maybe in a non combo related aggro deck.

Yeah, I see what you mean. Maybe in something else, though...
