Hello! Just wanted to post a link to the blog page for my homebrew Gamma World conversion to use with the D&D 5E Basic Rules PDF: http://community.wizards.com/content/blog/4113536

Please comment and critique here or on the blog page (the second would be best). Have a good day!

Argh! You son of a ... mutant! You beat me to it. I started plinking away on this a couple years ago. But work, career, mortgage got in the way. Oh man, how I wish I could leave my hellish career path and write things that are really fun like this. *sob*

Well, it looks great so far! I was wondering how your were going to take the goodness of D&D Gamma World's character generation and incorporate it into Next. Looks like you're on the way.

Now I have to decide if I should use your version or continue using the Savage Worlds fan-created version (which is excellent btw).

P.S. just don't do conversions of Gangbusters or Boot Hill and no one will get hurt. *wink*

My only criticism - is there a way to do TWO origins for each character, a la D&D Gamma World. That made character concepting ridiculously fun.

Cheers!

 The Radioactivist

Thanks for the kind words! And yes, I devoted quite a few hours to this project, I admit. Overall it took me about two months BUT for now I'm gonna stop for a while and focus on my University duties (I kinda have to get a graduation :D )... after all, anyone can already find what he or she needs in my PDFs (character creation, monsters, and some environment). I never meant to write modules or fiction, leaving the delight of improvisation to GMs.

As for "D&D GAMMA WORLD" style origins, I guess one could write down a chart with some "bio archetypes" that provide fixed mutations and scores, plus proficiency in a skill, like:

YETI

Ability scores: 16 Strength (or 18 if both bios overlap), 3d6 for others

Proficiency: Athletics

Fixed mutations: Darkvision, Frostborn

Random mutations: One random mutation

which, paired with, for example:

RADIOACTIVE

Ability scores: 16 Constitution (or 18 if both bios overlap), 3d6 for others

Proficiency: Survival

Fixed mutations: Gamma Eyes, Radiation Resistance

Random mutations: One random mutation

which would give us a 16 Str and 16 Con (plus variable other scores) mutant with two proficiencies and six mutations. A bit "better" than the GAMMA FIVE average mutant, but nothing crazy. Can do!

First off, I want to say that this is amazing work Emanuele_Galletto! I wanted to know your thoughts behind limiting the whole thing to one class and, if you felt it were possible, what expansions may be available (or perhaps replaced by feats or something)? Thanks!

Thanks for the kind words, whitishknight!

Well, the idea of a single class stems from two things: first, it was like this in the D&D4E version of Gamma World and in Jonathan Tweet's Omega World (proof that this approach worked); second, I envisioned Gamma Five as a "light" system compatible with D&D 5E basic rules, and there's plenty of rules to take in with the bios and mutations alone, so I figured that the class was best left a generic one, sort of a "skeleton" on which you can build your style of survivor (based on the mutations and ability scores you get).

In addition, having multiple class choices is against the quick and random nature of character creation

HOWEVER. I was considering the option of an expansion with "paths", basically sets of feats that can be obtained in a certain order. Just as in the core rules, whenever you get the option of an ability score increase, you can instead purchase a feat. You can only purchase the first feat of a path this way; then, once you get the first feat of a path, you can get the other ones whenever you get the ability score increase later in the character's growth.

Lastly, when it comes to "what could be possible", anything really is! You could introduce the usual D&D classes without having to change anything (the same goes for the core list of feats).

It was the whole point to build a conversion that could be compatible with core D&D 5 material :D

EDIT: by the way, I just updated the rules document had to change some of the mutations so that they increase in power with the character's level.

UPDATE!

I added a new pdf document to the page: the GAMMA FIVE DLC, with new bios, mutations and 100 extra junk items! Have fun!

I love this and I'm running a campaign with these rules ASAP! My only gripe: No swim speed mutation or mutant fish race. Any chance ya might add somethin' like that?

I just found your work and want to say it's amazing. ****ing nice work!
