The Extended Decks to Beat Maintenance/FAQ/"Who's Who".

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What is this forum for?
A: This forum is for discussion of the Top Decks in the current Block format. In response to requests from our posters, we have created this subforum specifically for these decks.

Q: Who can start threads in this forum?
A: In order to keep this forum focused on the top decks in the format, only VCLs can start threads here. In order to get a thread that needs to be in here moved in simply request so in this thread.

Q: Who can post in this forum?
A: Everyone can post, so please do! Often! Don't feel discouraged to join the discussions!

Q: How are the Decks to Beat chosen?
A: Decks are added to the forum when they have proven themselves in a tournament environment. We will try to focus threads to decks that perform well in Pro Tours, Grand Prixs, Regional/States and other major tournaments.

Q: My favorite deck is not here, how do I get it added? It beats every deck out there!
A: If you have a deck you think merits inclusion, then contact me. You should also consider having an active thread in the Block forum, with some relevant results backing its claim as a Deck to Beat. Realize however, that a deck that destroys a local card shop tournaments does not get included based on that alone.

Q: I have more questions, who do I ask?
A: If you have more questions, just ask me. If it gets asked enough, we will add it to the FAQ =)

Who's Who?

It's always good to know who's in charge right?

Atmapalazzo is the Volunteer Community Leader for all forums under Deck Critique: Casual and Deck Critique: Sanctioned Tournament. I will be the core to the maintenance/organization of this subforum.

Enigmata and Avenged_Sixfold are the Forum Guides. They are my official assistants. Mntwinsfan is my unofficial assistant.

Zammm is the Senior Volunteer Community Leader for the Magic Forums (yes, all those forums). He however, is not one who you should request changes to.

ORCs (such as ORC_Chaos): are strictly in charge of CoC violations.

Has it been decided which decks are moving in here? Or is PT:Berlin not enough?

I'd be interested in this as well. Elves, Zoo, and Faeries seem like obvious choices, but there are plenty of other worthy decks. Death Cloud, Doran, NLU, Tezzeret Control, Storm, All-in-Red, Burn, Affinity, and RDW all deserve consideration.

A note on the RDW thread: When I updated it, I also included card choices, decklists, and matchup information for the White and Black splashes, as well as just RG. Thus, we could also use it as a place to discuess 3 color Zoo, while Domain Zoo has its own thread (which, incidentally, I am working on).
can i suggest the top 8 decks: not just decks in the top 8 as we'd have like 3 decks.

i'm off to find a link to the magic mainpage that bypasses the plainswalker flash as it's murdering my firewall... :D bye!!!
This is what I would use for the Decks to Beat:

Elves
Tezzerator
Domain Zoo
Faeries
Death Cloud
NLU
TEPS

I've included links to the updated threads that we have.

Burn, Doran, Affinity, and All-in Red, and RDW/3 color Zoo should all have threads, even if they aren't in the Decks to Beat.
Looking at the day two decklists, it struck me how similar NLU and Faeries are, for the most part. Defining cards like Bitterblossom are far from universally adopted. Their noncreature bases are basically the same.

Having one thread for base blue decks that play Spellstutter Sprite/Riptide Lab and one thread for those base blue decks that choose Tarmogoyf to finish instead might be unnecessary. Just a thought.

I can agree with all he says. We might need to add in the fringe decks to help round out the forum.

I am at present working on a new Affinity thread. It may be a bit though.
I remember having a Faerie thread at one point, but I can't seem to find it now. If we can't find it, someone will have to make one, as it is clearly a Deck to Beat at this point.

EDIT: Got it

It hasn't been updated from Berlin yet, though, and the OP hasn't been on in a few weeks.

You wanted to know where the decklist where. Your welcome.

Thanks. The Domain Zoo thread will be up tomorrow, everyone.
Oops, didn't see that we already had a Faeries thread from a while back. Well, if that one doesn't get updated, we've got a new one anyway

Yours is better and more up to date. He had a chance to update and improve the thread, but didn't. I'm glad that you made a new one.
I just finished the Affinity thread. It is a little rough for my tastes but is comparable to the original from the DTB section.
What does everyone think about Doran going into the Decks to Beat? It is still a good deck and will most likely see play, but it didn't do particularly well at Berlin.

We still don't have threads for NLU or All-in Red. All-in Red wouldn't be a Deck to Beat, but it should at least have a thread.
Dredge had 2 decks in top 16 in Berlin and 4 on day two, meaning that 50% of the decks that made it to day two had the potential to make it to top 16. With everybody focusing on Elves!, and having Chalice of the Void as such a strong option against Tormod's Crypt, I definitely think that this will be a deck to beat in coming tournaments, but I think it's already proven itself as a DtB at Berlin. I already have a primer written up if you want to move it in here.

Personally, I think that Dredge deserves to be in here, but I'd like to hear other people's opinions on it as well. The evidence that RathiAssassin provides is hard to ignore, though the fact that only eight people played the deck could work against it.
Although I love Dredge and believe it's already a contender, maybe it would be best to see how many people play it in the Grand Prix qualifier at Worlds this year (hopefully I'll be one of them).
Storm and NLU each were only played by one player at Worlds. We could take their DtB status now or wait for the PTQ season and give them a chance to redeem themselves. Affinity also did pretty poorly, but it allegedly won the PTQ that was held at Worlds so it is probably worth keeping in.

Possible inclusions based on Worlds results, in order of popularity and success:
Burn
UB Tron
Swans
Dredge
Goblins
All-in Red
Gifts Rock

Personally, I think that, at the very least, Burn and UB Tron should go in.

I think burn definately deserves it just because of the insanely large amount of budget players that will play it. Not convinced by UB tron yet. Seems like it was just a one time deal. I'm making a new swans thread soon, btw. I don't think it needs DtB, so we'll just put it in TC to start and see how it does in the upcoming season.

I think that the "Decks to Beat" should be stickied.
The Burn thread needs to be updated. I'd be willing to update it myself if you guys want.
