This thread is for discussion of this week's Uncharted Realms, which goes live Wednesday morning on magicthegathering.com.

I'm hoping this was a hint that next year's block will be a Jace and Garruk centered storyline.  While I think Jace has been overexposed, he's a much welcome leading character compared to Elspeth.  It's likely we'll also get to see Liliana (as Garruk would still be pursuing her), and in turn the 3rd demon lord she's hunting down.  From a storyline perspective, a Jace and Liliana reunion is also overdue.

I also like Jace a lot better than Elspeth, flavor-wise. Jace is annoying to me due to overexposure. Elspeth is just plain annoying.

Meanwhile, somewhere in the Multiverse, Nicol Bolas' 13-dimensional chess game of manipulating planeswalkers continues...

Hopefully, we'll see Chandra in Warlords of Khanar. Has it really been 5 years since Chandra was a lead character in the block? All those new cards in the Core Sets make her appearance in Zendikar seem so recent.

"Ah, the age-old conundrum. Defenders of a game are too blind to see it's broken, and critics are too idiotic to see that it isn't." - Brian McCormick

I liked this story a lot.  Makes me eager to learn more of what's going on with Garruk and what Jace will do next.

From Mark Rosewater's Tumblr: the0uroboros asked: How in the same set can we have a hexproof, unsacrificable(not a word) creature AND a land that makes it uncounterable. How does this lead to interactive play? I believe I’m able to play my creature and you have to deal with it is much more interactive than you counter my creature.

MaRo: One of the classic R&D stories happened during a Scars of Mirrodin draft. Erik Lauer was sitting to my right (meaning that he passed to me in the first and third packs). At the end of the draft, Erik was upset because I was in his colors (black-green). He said, "Didn't you see the signals? I went into black-green in pack one." I replied, "Didn't you see my signals? I started drafting infect six drafts ago."

MaRo: I redesigned him while the effect was on the stack.

I can just see Jace's face when Vraska realizes he used his mind tricks to get away. C: The grin probably goes past his ears.

Also, "neuter" all the guildmages? Now that's just sick and twisted--not to mention impractical. Wouldn't you rather neutralize them?

Last I heard of Garruk, he was diverted from his path of hunting Lilliana during Avacyn Restored.  Hopefully we can learn what has happened to Garruk since then (unless something happened in The Secretist, which I haven't read).

Rooting for Jace is like rooting for the dealer at a casino.

True, but at least Jace plays the game.  Elspeth is that obnoxious friend you take to Vegas that doesn't want to do anything.  Elspeth would be the one sitting in her hotel room, too uptight at the thought of losing coin to even play a hand.    Even if you could convince her to come downstairs and enjoy herself, she doesn't know what she's doing.  The girl could have a 3 and a 7 and still be too afraid to hit.
