The demo rules said:
"COVER: Normal Cover gives enemies a flat -2 penalty on
attack rolls, and can prevent adjacent foes from "threatening"
(for opportunity attack purposes). Total Cover (such as firing
through an arrow slit) gives enemies a -5 penalty. Your allies
don’t provide cover, but enemies do
. There’s also no penalty for
making ranged attacks into melee."

The bolded section can be interpreted two ways. So which way should it be interpreted?
Your allies don't provide cover for your enemies.

Your allies provide cover for yourself.

So the fighter standing on front of the wizard gives him a +2 against ranged attacks, but doesn't give the monsters +2 against attacks from the wizard.

Same thing for melee vs. ranged monsters. The big orc on your face provides cover for the not-so-big orc casting spells on the back.
I can only interpret it one way: Allies don't grant cover bonuses, but enemies do [grant cover bonuses]. How else can it be interpreted?

Although, does this mean that attacking at range through a line of enemies grants your target a cover bonus?

That's what it means, yes.

You have 10 monsters in a narrow corridor and try to shoot the last one, you take -2.

You have 9 allies between you and a monster in a narrow corridor and try to shoot the monster, you don't take -2.
