An Easier Encumbrance Method perhaps?

I think the main problem with encumbrance is the way the equipment sheet is set up.

I understand how it was made to maximize space for other things but if they changed the sheet to just be equipment it would help greatly to track Encumbrance as well as equipment. It is not convient, that is why many people don't do it.

I find the 2nd page in the character sheet rather useless anyways, and how it sounds that they will be doing spells and feats all those should be on a new page anyways.

If they set up the sheet better, with groups of items it would be easier to keep track of. It might mean 3 character pages however, but most people run around with an expendable items page and a spell page anyways so...

Example page (silly thing doesn't allow tabs and spaces)

Obviously there would be more room on a real sheet, it could have many more groups. You could group them in for example groups of 10 so counting is much easier.

Stuff on a character shouldn't count as weight except armor, and shield, and robe anyways.

* Group A could have stuff like extra Rings, gems, scrolls. Small Alchemical items
Group B be wands, small weapons, potions, big alchemical items
Group C be regular weapons, Staffs, Arrows
Group D (not shown) would be Large weapons, and stuff bigger than a pound.

If you left the group names blank then people can name them "Potions" or Scrolls, or Small Alchemical Items or wands or whatever. You could even leave weight as 1/X so people could pick a weight variable if they have more big stuff.

There by tracking things in a better way, it is easier to keep track of what you have, and it's weight. If you can carry 25 lbs of gear after armor, then you know you can have 25 groups of things that weigh 1 pound. Also helpful if you buy multiples, so 10 smoke sticks = 1/10 for example.

I don't know if this solves encumbrance at all, but it would make it easier to track, and therefore easier to do. Plus I wound know what I have!
