I love this new location for the Char Op forum!
As I said in that other topic... Char op/min-maxing is ubiquous in nearly ALL RPG... WOTC was at least honest about it, and offered a place for it, simply. Inevitable.

Shadowrun, Vampire, GURPS, HERO, etc... it's inevitable.
Strategies for designing characters and tactics for playing them, are legitimate.

Hopefully, it isnt possible for 4e to become as brokenly cheesy as 3e could.

If its hard to break 4e characters, then elegance and economy of design are excellent ways to actualize roleplaying flavor.
No one's forcing you to read these threads or post here, y'know.

Which is actually the strongest argument for having its own forum. The optimization will happen, and this gives it a place to happen where those who find it distasteful or whatever can avoid it.

In the desert
I saw a creature, naked, bestial,
who, squatting upon the ground,
held his heart in his hands, and ate of it.
I said, "is it good, friend?"
"It is bitter – bitter," he answered;
"but I like it,
"beacuase it is bitter,
"and because it is my heart."

Hey Wiz0s, you know you can just edit the part of the post which referred to someone else's post out you know? My post did actually make a commentary about the fact that Character Optimization was above General Discussion.

To everyone else. I'm glad it's here, although I worry about some disgruntled anti-CharOp posts in the near future.
I for one look forward to 4e optimization boards, because unlike 3e, I will actually be able to see how it evolves, and in fact contribute (hopefully) meaningfully to it. I do see it also as a proving grounds. If WoTC looks at the OP boards, their errata should be forthcoming (again hopefully) should any thing truly overpowered comes to be discovered. To that end it will help prove/disprove the balance mantra of 4e. Finally it will give me as a DM, a few readily steal able functional characters for just about any of my PC's player concepts. IF the WoTC goes so far as to make special Char op Posts, then I could see myself collecting a wide array of chars. (hopeful thinking I know) let me bold that so that the duders/ettes who run these forums sees

MAKE SPECIAL CHAR OP POSTS! not every one knows how to make a table, and by having it universal, we, the players get a virtual library of chars.
The essential theme song- Get a little bit a fluff da' fluff, get a little bit a fluff da' fluff! (ooh yeah) Repeat Unless noted otherwise every thing I post is my opinion, and probably should be taken as tongue in cheek any way.
My one beef is that I think the skin for the regular D&D forum looks a lot better than the skin of this Gleemax forum. I'm not feeling the big neon green buttons and whatnot.
Race for the Iron Throne - political and historical analysis of A Song of Ice and Fire.
Then may I point you over to the character development forums. If you dislike the idea of the char op boards then I would not go to them.
This board is worthless and does nothing to promote roleplaying. All it does is encourage power gamers and rollplaying.

Aww. The boards very first Stormwind Fallacy. Someone take a photo.

It is a little odd that the development forums aren't in this section though. I guess this area is for rules in general.
Well... At least we got custom avatars....
I admit that I did enjoy the CharOp's previous location at the bottom of the forum where it was hidden from most mortal eyes.
You're not evil unless you do Psionic.
You're not evil unless you do Psionic.

Or ToB.

Which might mean I get to be good for the whole of 4e, since there's not likely to be a Tome of Battle and the main reason that I used psionics heavily in 3.x was that I hated Vancian casting (oddly, part of why I hated Vancian casting was that it was too easy for me to dominate games with it, but I was a powergamer for using psionics instead).
Which other games?

I'm guessing all games not D&D *Continues trying to figure out arrays in M&M2E* God this is complicated.

Woo! First vocal moderation in the new forum! First of so very, very many to come...

Ok Sinister. We'll be good.
On topic (sort of), does anyone else think that the Character Development Forums should be around here as well?
I do.

Thing is that the Character development forum just got a rename and a few forums folded together and is still on the D&D layout.

The forum in my sig has a high chance to be *the* place for 4E CO. I suggest you poke around since a substantial chunk of the CO regs are going to use it as the primary place if nothing changes.

They're going to use a broken link?

Stupid typos. Should work now. I had dropped the s after gameologist on accident.
I am torn between merging the CO and development forums actually. On one hand, I can just imagine the chaos which will ensue. But on the other, sounds like it will be fun seeing the inter-faction politicking...:P

That sounds like a recipe for Stormwind-driven disaster.
Hopefully, Char Op and Char Dev will be two separate forums, side-by-side.
I would find it highly entertaining if they were combined....
Glad to see you guys have a new home in a nice neighborhood. Can I get you anything? Chips? Soda? Anything at all to keep you far away from my game-- er, that is, I mean, keep you comfortable? :D
With the new monster builds and traps I wonder if their going to make a forum for DM's to make power combo's to thwart the optimized pc's... I know that sounds snarky, but I was being serious. As a DM I think it would be awesome if we could collaborate on stuff.
Yeah. I have interest in the Char Op forum, but since 90% of my playing time is on the other side of the GM screen, I REALLY want an Encounter Op forum. :P

I second (third?) the request for an Encounter Op forum.

The old Char Dev forum just got a rename to what? Is it the Player Advice forum? :D I hope not. I had a look in the Player Advice forum, and post of the players are asking for advice ... on how to Char Op their characters. (Hows that for a good reason for having a convenient Char Op forum nearby.)

I would rather see the Char Dev forum focus on creating cool characters, with pics and bios, and tips for roleplay. Examples of people who really get into their favorite characters. Hmmm. Maybe call the forum *Favorite Character*.

Id rather general advice, like how to get along with fellow players or the DM to be in a separate forum.

Dang, here I thought I was keeping up. What needs to change?

-- Also... CO forums (and general forum rework) 3 weeks before the rules are out? Interesting...
Im looking for something like the following for a roleplay forum alongside the Char Op forum:
- - - Favorite Characters (images of characters, bios & personalities, roleplay advice, building to express flavor)

The non-D&D CO forum has that.

I personally plan to spend more time on the 4E CO forum than I did for 3E. I got into the CO game kinda late in 3E, and I was always working harder to counter-balance the craziness that my players put forth; I was basically gathering intel.

Now with DDI, my hope is that I'll get to spend more time as a player, so I'll probably be actively participating.

I've actually stated that I will be doing an online review of tactics for both players and various creatures a while back.

Naw, the Player Advice forum used to be "What's a Player to do?"

Character Optimization and Character Development got changed to d20 Character Optimization and d20 Character Development

Y'know, there are worse ways to die...
I always thought of the char op forum as a sort of "beta testing" forum. If something in the game mechanics is "broken", they'll find it.
