All that may be true, but admit it - this direction of D&Dnext is rekindling the flames of hope, and nostalgia is beginning to surface. The perfect mix of old and new (or so we hope).
PS - I love the idea of bounded accuracy, as I feel we are finally going back to role playing rather than knockoffs of video game design bonuses.

(con't) I think that the game does need to reward both good Character Building AND good Party Building. I mean, it is fun sometimes to make a special group that breaks from the norm, but part of the reason that is fun is because it does in fact make the whole concept more challenging. A group of all fighters is great in straight combat, but the lack of the other 3 archetypes makes it harder to avoid traps, handle swarms, counter magic, and heal magically, as well as repel undead. A party of all...

I love playing clerics, but I also like the option of DMing a world inspired by Lord of the Rings or Game of Thrones - both settings with lower magic and less healing. Just as Mike Mearls likes to run an all day castle siege, and Chris Perkins a new campaign with lots of political intrigue, I think the basic rules should allow for an easy to use option for non-magical, or more rare, or slower forms of healing. Keep up the good work, Mike - and thanks as always for listening!

...halflings should return to their origins -hobbits- if we want that the power-of-the-genre-archetypes concept which D&D is based upon since it came to life spread its magic; it seems they do so and I'm very happy!

We all uttered "Whoever designed this adventure should DIE!" when we played Castle Greyhawk, by it still one of my favorites.

I love it when I'm running an organized play adventure and they ask in disbelief "geez, who wrote this?!!!!" and I get to say it was me. Usually they react by laughing and pounding the table, because they are seeing a type of challenge they haven't seen before but are still having a good time. I like pushing PCs to the brink of failure but not over that line, because ultimately I'm a sucker for heroes.

I think the old ogre-specific head was better.

People not familiar with D&D lore might interpret this as a cave troll, remembering LotR. I'm not sure if this is your concern.

they are looking like to fight with a big, strong and hurtful group. they are looking like a green cavemen with structure of a dwarf and a cruel orc face.
the goblins that i know look more like to run away immidietly.
to sum up, i like this goblins, but they are looking like an half green caveorc half green cavedwarf.

Not really a fan of the goblin at the top. Seems a little too thick and stocky through the trunk. His eyes are dull, and the face reminds me more of a sleepy orc (savage, but tired and dull). The eyes should be sharper, more clever. The sloping forehead is good, but the wide underbitten jaw screams orc. I'd rather see a pointy chin, and a face broadest at the temples. Almost elfin, just ugly.
On the positives, I like the overall proportions. The almost monkey-like arms read well to...

gnolls are one of my favorite threats as a DM.but the ultimate is giant wasps that try killing the characters to feed to there young.
      December 16, 2012 10:42 PM PST
In my opinion, there are a few things the wrong with this gnoll; a) the little braids near the ear, need to go, this is, in a sense, a bipedal, humanoid hyena, so the ear hair, looks unnatural, b) they need to look dumb, but not like Quasimodo, the hunchback thing is weird and awkward, it needs to look hyena like, so have their back straighter, but give them sloping shoulders, c) their knees do not ALWAYS have to be bent, they are humanoids, so give them something that says 'feral' without...

Did rule of three go away because this one is a total disaster or because people stopped asking questions?

''Goring Charge: On its turn, this creature can use its movement to move at least half its speed in a straight line and then use its action to make a special melee attack. This melee attack is a gore attack (+4 attack, 3d10 + 4 damage). So far, being a player and DM of the playtest, I like the direction DnDNext is heading. I see a lot of good debates as I have also played since I was 10 to 12, and now 40, so I can respect the angst at what may come. I will say this though. 4e was simple to set encounters for simple beat downs of the monsters if you didn't modify and add a monster or two. Sometimes, even more. Maybe when the system first came out, it was different. However, once many variations of characters, the many many...

Actually even on a tactical level (Ie goblins/kobolds at first level and battle strategy): Due to ability to make your own monsters DnD is much more replayable then you give credit for.
On a story level so long as your party doesn't fall into ruts of copy characters, then the storyline is continually different too.

If you do a $200 boxed set I would buy it IF it were full of stuff. Warhammer 3rd edition was $100 and had about $30 worth of product. I won't be buying anymore of their overpriced stuff ever again. You best move would be a $15-20 boxed set. Just like the original red box. A basic rulebook with a module and dice.

The new iteration of D&D needs to ensure character death is a much more significant facet of the game and one which really makes players feel the enormity of those moments in battle when things get really close for individual or party survival. The current system provides too many favours to the PC's which has reduced both the sense of fear and reward in the game.
