Up until a couple weeks ago when i attended my first encounters session, my D&D play experience was extremely limited, and now suddenly I'm in the swing of things. I showed up at the FLGS for my first session with my Essentials Cleric and found that i was probably the only essentials character in the bunch, so this season, I've rolled up a non-Essentials character like much of the rest of the group.
I showed up for Gameday but none of the other guys i was supposed to run it with did so i'm waiting for a rerun to experience it, thankfully since missing it wasn't my fault the flgs is letting up have another chance at it.
So i show up for Session 1 and we get settled, we have 8 players show up with no prepared DM, so one of the guys who was hoping to run a character this season takes up the mantle. Our group consisted of 3 leaders (My Bard, a Warlord, and a Druid) and 4 Strikers (rogue, wizard, ranger, and monk) so this particular encounter was far from difficult, in the course of the whole battle, the only one of us who even took damage was the Wizard (other than 2 civilians who were also the only people to get any healing), and even with an extra wave of undead thrown in, it was a three round battle, with no particular creativity, so i don't remember a moment of greatness being awarded, though a couple of players picked up their 3+ minions in one attack points, sadly my own attempt at gaining those points brought down only 2, but i figure two out of three ain't bad when your highest die roll is a 10
