Deleted.

Not for lack of reviews, but because the more I thought about it, the more I hated how it turned out. Postponed once more indefinitely.

I probably won't even start working on it again until mid-April.

Hey, just popping in here to say I'm working on a complete re-write. I'd hope by now you guys expected this out of me.

After reading what essentially boils down to fanfiction (not anything here, though), I had a big realization about how downright awful my drafts so far have been. Reviewing, I also realize I was working against my strengths. My real (writing) strength is in description, and my horrible, agonizing failure (both in writing and out) is social interaction.

So, I hope to at least revise and finish the first chapter before too much longer so you guys can see just how good I can be; though having started reading the Discworld series, I'm thinking of tossing out the 'chapter' concept and just have one continuous story (broken into views, of course).

Hurry, Hurry, Hurry! Step right up and get your copy of the first chapter of the manuscript! Going fast, so get them while supplies last! 13 pages, ladies and gentlemen! All for your viewing pleasure! Peruse at your leisure!

docs.google.com/open?id=0B90pduKYen57eXQ...

It was esier to make a google doc out of it than to post all the reworked pieces. Besides, I pretty much threw out all of parts 1 and 2 in the rewrite. Part 3 I just liked too much to part with it. See the front page post to find out what I did (and also read there if you don't like google). It's in the first post as well, but I thought a single coherent document would be easier to read.

One thing I need to know: is having two flashbacks in one chapter detracting from it? If so, which one should be cut? It's something that's been bugging me.

Alright, I admit, I'm a bit lost. Did you just totally rewrite the first chapters, or tweak them? Is everything in the google document now, or just the first part of what you've written? Am I just completely stupid? -_-

See, this is exactly the kind of thing I need. I have absolutely no idea what I'm doing here. Is it too convoluted to follow? Am I trying too hard to describe things? It's all falling apart underneath its too-much-ductape scaffolding, isn't it?

To directly answer your questions: I kept the general events the same, but I basically rewrote the first parts from scratch. Like that whole beginning, where I talk about Ihn Gallad's place in the multiverse, was not in my originals or even scraps.

The same parts that are in the opening post (shame on you for not noticing the ghost updates) are in the Doc. I just thought it would be easier to read in that form (I combined them in MS Word for myself). And once I posted I just decided to go with crazy and didn't really bothe with coherence. It seems that may have leaked over into the story, eh?

No, no, I haven't even started the story. I'm sure the story is fine! I just am having trouble keeping track of what to read, where to start, and how much to read.

Just a status update:

I'm scratching my previous installments, AKA "chapter 1."

I'm working on the next chapter, which I might make Ch.1 in favor of turning the previous Ch.1 into a Prologue.

I will have a definite narrative going forward, thanks to this link which Keeper posted... somewhere a few days back. Thank you so much, Keeper.

I have an opening couple of paragraphs together, but I'm wanting to play around with making them look like they're from a page of papyrus paper, and don't rightly know how to go about that. Until I figure it out, I'm going to keep it to myself -- and besides, it will hold more weight when part of the whole, finished chapter.

That said, if you're more satisfied with doing a new version, I guess I shouldn't dissuade you, especially if it'll help you move beyond that first chapter. Just... don't keep re-writing because you have a distorted sense of your own ability, ok? I don't want you convincing yourself that you're a terrible writer or something.

Don't worry about the look. I've got your back there. Just let me know what visual you need and I can put it together once you have the text done.

Well, a of it is that OCD, you know. I can't admit when something is "good enough," much less "perfect." I look back every so often at things I wrote, say, a year ago and think, "Dear god, what a pile of crap."

Thing is, here, with this story, I've been kind of pushing it and so haven't explored how to write it like I've been doing with my other stories. I also learn something about writing in between every iteration. I think that this time, though, it will flow the easiest and not just come out when I think "the muse" hits me.

See, I've decided on my narrative style as kind of a "storyteller who is telling the story as they find out about it." By which I mean, the story will be told more in-the-moment, less leaving the narrative to go on about sunsets, and no hinting at future events beyond suspicions using current knowledge (in other words, the narrator is going to know what the reader knows, not be from the future). But I'm going to intersperse things like journal pages, tombstone epitaphs, etc., throughout as if the storyteller is trying to piece together events from fragments they've found around the world (while yes still being third-person psychic cloud most of the time).

I already have some photos of papyrus paper I was going to fiddle around with, but I need to durdle with different fonts and then after I've decided on that, change the text into a phot so I can add little things like non-parallel text lines, mistakes and/or cross-outs, notes in the... What do you call that little white space on the edges of pages? You know, like hand-written and in ink (actually not like in ink but I'll leave in what as a surprise for now).

Also, can I put this in my sig:
