I've started a new D&D4E campaign that I'm very excited about. The setting is the core Points of Light, with a few changes. A few very, very big changes. Imagine a world imersed in darkness, where the only light comes from the few cities... Literally.
This is not a full campaign report, as I'm not likely to post detailed reports of every session. Such details could only interest me and my group. This is more like an overview of the setting and general storyline, and a few notes on the game.
Nightfall - A campaign set in darkness
Pellor is dead. He was killed by Torog, the Sun was blown up in the sky, and now the world lies in eternal darkness. Only two monthes have passed, and torches are already as natural as clothes and towns light rows of torches in the streets or great fires in their squares. Even the weather is growing colder and colder - and news spread about a powerful White Dragon migrating south, for reasons as yet unknown, and causing great destruction.
The priesthood of Pellor has adopted a new symbol, the Eclypse, representing the darkness that shall pass away. But, as the clerics of the god begin to slowly losing their powers, the symbol is taken more and more to represent the victory of darkness. Dark creatures revel in the darkness. Hags celebrate the prophecized coming of Bar'Akha, the Eternal Night. Rumor says that the Drow are building an aboveground city, the mighty Cinimbul - the Surface Keep.
The Wizards of the World at first tried with all their hopes to revert the darkening of the world, or to create new light sources. But in an event never before seen, all the Arcanists of the entire world met in a secluded place to discuss the matter. In the end all signed an obscure document - the Tenebrous Letter. No one knows what exactly it says, but they have surely agreed about making nothing about the darkness. If any spellcaster in the world failed to go to the meeting and sign the Letter, he's now an Outcast and enemy of every other Wizard in the world.
There is starvation, panic, violence... No one would travel throught the once most safe roads without a 20-men escort, and in these days no escort is available even for the richest. Now this is Points of Light. The Forgotten Realms and the Five Nations could as well be called Points of Darkness, with that huge fiery ball in their sky.
Erdan is an Elf Avenger of Sehanine. He was raised by the church, but longed for freedom, and got that when was sent to track the Torog assassin that attacked the church.
Jadeon is a Human Warlord whose father was a noble and retired adventurer. After his father was killed, trained magic under an old fellow of him and now seeks revenge.
Laucian is a Half-Elf Paladin. His father was a woodmen that met an Elf maiden in the woods and married her; when they died, Laucian became squire to a Paladin of Bahamut, that recently died.
Nubei is a Dwarf Druid. Born at a merchant family, found his town razed and relatives presumably dead and fled to the woods. There, comuned with nature and gained his powers.
Rasputin is an Eladrin Swordmage. He was once a powerful summoner/binder, but in the exorcism accident that killed his wife he lost all his power and begun training as a swordsman. May have an demon still bound in his body.
More on the game soon...
