Well met, all, I posted some comments on the piece in the Community Forums, if you're interested: community.wizards.com/go/thread/view/758... I'm pleased that some folks are finding it cool/useful, and saddened that some aren't. Shucks. Cheers
@Alphastream1 -heh, I remember AD&D Kreens were more horizontal, but that's the limit of my recollections, alas! =) I do have those old DS books around somewhere, I should have a look. The half giants' instability wasn't bad either -while I don't like alignment, that's another great idea. It's really original to have a fantasy... can I call it species instead of "race"? I understand your initial edition rage at 4e Kreens -Dark Sun introduced some incredibly innovative fare for D&D, and of course lots of people got extremely fond of it. Reminds me of 4e Monster Manual Warforged and how lots of people felt they really weren't the same as in 3.5 Eberron... Incidentally, I'm also a Warforged fan of course and it's not like I myself appreciated the way they were translated all that much, either =)
'Species' is really what we should all be using! But yeah, I have made my peace with the new Kreen! They are pretty awesome whether horizontal or vertical.
Like all themes, this adds a degree of depth to any well designed character. As a lover of the "squishy" templates, this one, does allow from some quick thinking to functional in combat or in those, oops situations.
I think since Nerathi Legends has been in Dragon regardless of whether geared towards DMs or Players, they decided to move the other monthly setting articles here. Also, they said something over and over again about "if there's no reason to keep it out of the Player's hands, it belongs in Dragon."

Not a huge fan of the "Eyes on..." articles in the first place. I get their appeal, but they just don't excite me. I really don't like this being in Dragon for a number of other reasons though.
