Red Box Game Day

Today was Red Box Game Day. I ran the said adventure at my local store. Big problem though college football, so only 4 players though plenty to still run with. I ran the adventure and let two off the players pick up the left over PC's Unfortanly for the the players they all fell after the monsters in iniative order. though playing by the tatics listed in the adventure within a short amount of time all of us were wondering if they were going to make it past the first encounter. See picture the only one standing at the moment is a fighter. Now things for the party did get better and they made it to the final encounter. Though after many high rolls on the monster Attacks and following the adventure guideline the adventure ended with the mage running away with one of the Theifs as the rest of the party meet their Doom with the young Black Dragon.
As much as it was exciting i do not enjoy loosing party members like this. I except this in the DarkSun Encounter Athas is a brutal world. So i pose this question (Not Saying that my players did this just a question) Do you find yourself that if you are playing a game day or encounters character that you are less attached and more likely to do risky things with that you wouldnt normally do?

I posted a blog a while back on how you feel about skill challenges weather they hinder roleplaying or not. In retro spect i see that I did not phrase the question in a way that would give any real results. So let me try this again. I am unsure how i feel about the skill challenges. I am looking for other people ideas on they best way to run a skill challenge. I know that a lot of people will have differant ideas and that is what i am looking for. I am fairly new to DMing 4e and am trying to find the best way to handle skill challenges in my group. Anyone who can share your experience or ideas on how to keep skill challenges fun and productive PLEASE leave a comment. I cant wait to hear from you.

After reading a few response to my previous post I would like to say: I understand that some people are not looking to find a new group to play with and have other reasons for being here like posting in the forums and such. I still feel that in this situation having a basic profile filled out with some information about the games you play and version will help when others and or yourself might be trying to find people you can discuss those specific games rules etc.... This is only my observation.. Thank you for reading

I wish more people had information on their profiles. It would make trying to connect with other people that want to game easier to find each other just a thought.
