So I am a week behind due to players not being able to make it last week, so without delay here is the final report for Encounters for at The Unknown in Scranton.
We had the following players,
Half elf ardent templar
Dwarf fighter minstrel
Dwarf monk wasteland nomad
Trikreen battlemind wasteland nomad
Human sorcercer vielled Alliance
I borrowed alot of other people's ideas for this fight and even used the rebuild for the Wastewalker that was posted.
Final run to Tyr
Show
So into the final fight I recap the last few chapters for people to feel good that this was the last fight for the Dark Sun universe. I also remind them that they might be able to talk the Wastewalker down if they encounter him again.
So I set the map and keep telling the PC's that the storm is just a hair behind them and they are barely keeping ahead. I gave the PC's 5 rounds of combat and then had the storm start to move onto the map from the area where they started and slowly move across the board so they wouldn't waste time and try to take out the enemies.
It is then that they encounter the Wastewalker and his buddies. I did reskin the one lizardman into a Dust Devil just to keep with the theme of the Wastewalker using the elements against the players.
The first suprise for the PC's was the Storm Spirits could hover above the party and therefore out of reach of most of their weapons. The Battlemind was so set in rushing them and engadging ,but they flew over him and down onto the rest of the party. The AOE started to hit.
Now everyone started to take damage ,but the fighter. His defense was so high alot of things missed.
The monk starts right away by dropping his dailies and targeting 2 of the creatures ,by this time the storm spirit is hurt and he takes one out. It then explodes hurting everyone ,but the TriKreen who was kept locked down in dazed status by the Wastewalker. The blast pretty much bloodies the rest.
The rest of the party work on the DustDevil and the other Storm spirit. Because the Trikreen engadges the Wastewalker, he doesn't target the rest of the party. The Trikreen pays for it, for he goes from full hit points to 1/3 real quickly.
The other 2 Lizardfolk then move in to engage the party and with their high AC and 1d10 damage it starts to take their toll. The Ardent goes down to 1hp then second winds back to 12 and then goes right back to 2 with the next hit, same with the Monk they are just getting the crap kicked out of them.
They are able to eliminate the other creatures and the Sorcerer tries to talk down the Wastewalker with a pretty good Diplomacy check ,but it will take a few more rounds of that to work. The fighter will have none of that and climbs up to take on the Walker, so much for talking him down. The ardent at this time tries intimidate by saying by the power of the sorcerer kings to surrender. She then attacks with the half elf dilettante Hand of Blight, the rest of the party can now see they have been traveling with a true defiler after all. The Wastewalker was correct to attack them.
The rest of the party takes on the Walker with the exception of the Trikreen who sees the Defiler for who she is and quits the battlefield in roleplaying. Now the party is one member down ,but they are all surrounding the walker and trying to take him out. When it bloodies the Trigger hits and it only hits the Ardent and Fighter. The Walker now goes after the Ardent over all others for he is out for blood.
In the end the Ardent is dropped and starts to make death saves. The storm is closing onto the party, so it is up to the party to leave her there to die or to take he to Tyr. The fighter doesn't debate it ,he just picks her up and runs from the storm. The monk picks up the dead body of the Walker as a trophy.
Therefore the party makes it to the city of Tyr. The PC's never see the TriKreen again for I don't think he wanted to hang around with a Defiler.
