Starting with PAX East, Wizards of the Coast have launched a series of products and events called Rise of the Underdark. Here, at Chaos City Comics we think that the Underdark is really cool and that the Drow are awesome. So to celebrate, we are announcing our first annual mini-convention - Underdark: First Assault! The convention will feature three fourth edition Dungeons and Dragons games featuring the Drow in one way or another. And to make things even more exciting, one of the adventures is the PAX East exclusive - The Sun Never Rises

Times

Underdark: First Assault will run on the 19th of May, 2012 (Saturday) at 11:00 am. The games should finish sometime around 5:00-5:30 PM. We will have a lunch break in the middle.

Venue

The convention takes place at Chaos City Comics in St. Albans. It is located at Heritage Close, High Street, Town Centre, Saint Albans AL3 4EB. St. Albans is on the Bedford trainline, with 24h access to and from London via St. Pancras. You can find their website at www.chaoscitycomis.com - If you have any questions - please ring them on 01727 838 719

Tickets

Entry is free! But we would appreciate if you registered for the convention by replying on the thread on our community forum, since spacing is very limited and this will be the only way to guarantee yourself a spot.

Fancy-dress competition

Come dressed as your favorite DnD characters and the best costume will receive a cool prize!

Adventures

PAX East: The Sun Never Rises
Convention Adventure
Author: Shawn Merwin
DM: Simon Matthews

Beneath the settlement of Dagger Falls, the deadly vanguard of an evil army crawls from the Underdark to threaten those who revere the light.

Her Radiance Dareen Travaskyr has led the Temple of Lathander’s Light for many years, making it a source of good and civilization in the otherwise wild Daggerdale. When the priestess received a vision urging her to create a powerful icon against an impending darkness, she employed a group of adventurers to complete her divinely inspired tasks. But evil has spies everywhere. Now, the party of heroes might be the only thing standing between forces bent on a grisly fate for the temple's inhabitants.

The Sun Never Rises is a Dungeons & Dragons adventure for four to six players. This adventure uses pregenerated 1st-level characters whose backgrounds link directly to its story. This short adventure is designed to introduce players to the threat presented in the Web of the Spider Queen D&D Encounters season, which is slated to begin on May 16, 2012. Successful completion of this adventure earns players benefits to assign to characters they play in the new D&D Encounters season.

All Quiet on the Easting Front
An adventure for 5th level characters
DM and author: Simon Dunnett

After the Abyssal Plague hit the small trading village of Easting, the place was never quite the same. It had been several weeks and the major damage had been repaired but the people are still in shock. Talk of Drow scouting the area and attacking caravans means that Lady Bron of Iriaebor isn't able to spare the resources to help the village recover. The brave knight Sir Arveen has just recovered from the Abyssal infection while Father Evendur is struggling to aid the scared populace.  Meanwhile a bunch of adventurers arrive in town on their way to other destinations, but on this stormy night, in the village of Easting, they realise that they might just be in the right place at the wrong time.

This adventure is designed as a homebrew follow-up to the current season of DnD Encounters. The adventure will feature pre-made characters of 5th level and a tower defense element in the combat encounters. Each of the characters will have a unique background and a personal goal.

Reinhar's Legacy
An adventure for 3rd level characters
DM and author: Efka Bladukas

For milennia, the tribesmen known as Arkaiun were slaves of the Crinti - a race of Loviatar worshipping half-blooded Drow. When the Spellplague hit Abeir-Toril, the nomadic barbarians rebelled and overthrew their tyrannic masters. Whilst the cities of Dambrath lie in ruins, the Arkaiun roam the land free. Now, a group of young tribesmen and their unlikely allies must journey into the Gnollwatch mountains for a rite of passage, and face the dangers that await them.

Reinhar's Legacy is an adventure that is designed with premade 3rd level charactes with detailed backgrounds. It is a stand-alone adventure written by yours truly. The adventure will also feature character options from the upcoming Into the Unknown: Dungeon Survival Guide book, which goes on sale just a few days before the convention!

Best of luck with this! It looks like you've got a great day planned, and if I wasn't busy that weekend, I'd have tried to make it down with the 3d terrain from the Drowathon to support you.

Will you be putting the two homebrew adventurew up for download after the event?

Hopefully. I will definitely put my own homebrew up for download, given some time. Not sure whether Simon will want to put his up, but it is entirely possible. It's a shame you can't make it - your continued support is very valued and appreciated though. The 3d terrain would have been an amazing addition!

Best of luck with the event, I'm attending a wedding unfortunately or I'd have found a way to get down - having had the pleasure of playing in one of Simon's adventures at the last tweetup I can highly recommend it (though I may have given him a "hatred" of pixies lol).

Look forward to seeing some photos and a write on the various blogs afterwoods and maybe reading the homebrew adventures too.
"Well that encounter was easy....er, guys, why is the DM grinning?" (party members last words)

It's not a party till the screaming starts!
