Hi Rian - I literally started with just a d20 and a pencil. Every time a decision had to be made roll a D20. If the number is great than 10 you succeed. I kept it low combat (although made it funny slapstick combat as well) and started them out when they were 4/5 years old. My son is now 14 and regularly runs Savage Worlds games and my daughter is 7 and just still likes to play the d20 game. We just bought a game called 'Oz' from RPG Now where you playing the world of 'The Wizard of Oz'. Thats the next one for my daughter !

Greetings all. My wife and I are finally expecting our first born so when I came across this group I thought it a perfect place to find some gamer parenting info. Although it will be several years until our son is old enough to play, I like to prepare in advance. I do have one question though; it's kinda aimed at my fellow Grognards although any helpful input is welcome. My question is, when your child/children where ready to game what did you start then out with? I've have this idea of pulling my old Red Box and Gazetteers out of storage and running him on basic for a year or two, then stepping up 5e or whatever the current edition is (or 3e if it sucks) when he's older. Have any of you tried this approach? Did it work? What approach did you try if you didn’t go this route? Thanks in advance.

Hey everyone! I'm probably one of the youngest members of this group, at 29 years old. My step-children are 11, 10, 8 and 7 years old, alternating girls and boys. I started playing D&D with them over a year ago, having started with the Castle Ravenloft board game and quickly transitioning to "proper" D&D. After a few sessions of 4E, I decided to go with a more rules-lite, old school system, and we've been running with Microlite ever since. My father-in-law has joined the group and we play mostly every Sunday, schedules permitting. The first part of their adventure was an on-the-fly adaptation of Keep on the Shadowfell, and now they are through the first book of the classic AD&D module Night Below. Well the campaign finally got started www.obsidianportal.com/campaigns/legacy-... although my youngest daughter didnt make it due to feeling ill. Not a bad start though, and even convinced the DM to up it to fortnightly instead of monthly :)

Well one of my regular players is going to run his first 4e campaign and his three players are going to myself, and both my daughters (both newbies). Although it is only going to be a monthly session for now due to his work commitments I'm hoping it will whett the girls' appetite for gaming. I'll let you know how it goes.
