Yeah, god forbid people would actually, you know, point out all the really good things 4E offered.
Heya Gunthar, I have done some extensive research about what made 4th edition fun for its fans and why. There exsists an over 100 page thread on these forums entiteld "Calling all fans of 4e" in case you are interested. That said I myself am an ye olde school as they come and enjoy TSR era D&D as my chosen R.P. vehicle. I tend to enjoy the more rules light but rules clear approach to gaming. And rules optional of course. I will also be quick to note that there is much akin to 4e. that was integrated into the alternastive Giant golem in the room "Piazo" though differently implemented and accepted with acclaim. Yes, 4e is well worth mining for great ideas. I personally believe that we have yet to see all the best ideas from every past edition integrated into the Next developement at this stage. This is tending to fustrate me personally. I just thought you might be interested to know that every old gamer isn't anti New or anti 4e. My current issue with next is the lack of response from the company to validate the new school playstyle via what is at the systems core. My other irritation is that what Next is accomplishing at this stage for my personal prefered playstlye my old system does so much better. I hope this post helps you out.

Warlords can be attack granters, buffers, de-buffers, healers, semi-suicidal melee mooks, knights, archers or even set up as to never have to make an attack roll themselves and just order others around the battlefield. What "playstyle" are you looking for?
Well if the warlord uses magic for all of that then I'm ok with the class. Otherwise, I'm not interested in martial healing . but that's the last I'll say about it, because I don't want to start an edition war.
Take out the healing bit (even though that's inspiration as HP are abstract) do trained combatants not set each other up for attacks? You can do a feint to draw the opponnent's focus, leaving him vulnerable to your ally's attack, block his shield arm, lock his sword with yours, etc. Creating a flank is only part of what trained warriors do. Those that train and work together make a much more effective and efficient force.

I love TSR-era D&D too, I still have all my books and the e-tools for characters for it and still play it some times. Heck, when I want to run a module, I often run an older module converted to 4E. But there's too many that are so set in trying to dismiss 4E's existance as to be useless to the conversation about actually creating a D&D Next that takes the best ideas from every edition .

Feint, Block, Pin, Flank... sounds like basic combat options or fighter maneuvers.
In 5e we have several different healing /resting rules. I'm using the most punishing of those rules for my playstyle.
At best you could argue that the warlord is some kind of fighter / bard or skuld for my playstyle.

No worries bro. I would like you to know I am following your posts and giving thought to your opinions. I would rather keep an inclusive view and an open mind to play with you than exclude you by way of proxy as I dismiss you for having a different point of view.
