If I could make Celeste Nazario in next I would believe!
She is a paladin rogue. Think: a religious Zorro serving Ilmater in the shadows of the city streets. DEX and CHA based swashbuckler.

Guy who hits thing with mace and heals people.
Too bad there are no rules for hitting things or healing.
What? There are?
Oh.
Never mind.

Currently my favorite character's all exist just in Pathfinder so I cannot translate them to D&D. Once Next comes out I'd like to create the benders from The Last AirBender. I'm currently writing them for Pathfinder since we are currently playing that.
I'd love them to make a witch that isn't all hex and cauldron- similar to The Charmed Ones. I haven't gotten that tranlated into PF, 3.5 or 4th ed though.
In one 3.5 campaign I had a barbarian shifter who carried around a bag of holding shaped like a toybox. The character was named Toybox. It was great fun!

Favorite characters:
1st edition: Human Monk, yes 2nd edition: Gray Elf Fighter (Gladiator) reincarnated as a Lizard man (D&D Next thus far has no reincarnation spell and no lizardfolk race) 3rd Edition: Magic Blooded Draconic Unseelie Fey Lesser Aasimar Divine Crusader/Ordained Champion/Paladin (not likely) 4th Edition Human Paladin/Sorcerer (no multiclassing yet)

Unless the character concept relies on specific paladin mechanics (which from your description it doesn't), you could make this is Next.
Go with Rogue and take a scheme that fits best with swashbuckler. Take the Priest background and the Mystical Healer specialty.

There is not a single character I have ever made that I could not find a way to recreate with the cuyrrent system with close enough facimile for me. The essence of my characters are not formed in mechanics but in the spirit of who they are.

Barbarian/Monk (at level1)? Nope, may never be possible in Next. Certainly Next won't have a "Tuathan" subrace of humans (this character's Theme).
Golem(Warforged) anmated and emowered by Nature Magic to blow stuff up (Warden|Vestige Warlock). Even father away from possible.
Shifter Warden, refluffed as a human prison for a primordial that manifests as a stone bear surrounded by storm clouds? Not so much.
A Werewolf that can turn into iron (Shifter Battlemind, maybe with Warden or Monk and an Ironwrought Theme)? My current favorite, and so far away in Next...

Personal opinion...
Basic (Red Box) - Duke Deathslayer (my first character), a straight fighter - definitely.
AD&D 2nd Edition - Metrinus, elf Fighter/Mage/Thief (Collector Kit from the Complete Book of Elves) - Basic concept can be achieved with a Fighter taking the Sage background and maybe the Expert Specialty.
3rd Edition - Grimm Spellsmith, dwarf Wizard (focused on crafting magic weapons and armor). Wizard with the Artisan background.
4th Edition - Jax, Minotaur Warden. Hmm, reflavor a human barbarian and it might work.

A large number of the characters people are trying to recreate couldn't be made out of any of the other core rules in any eidition either. There will be supplements and house rules and creative players coming up with their own creations eventually too.
