Aye I don't care if people use alignment in their games, but I want the mechanics and rules I pay money for to be at least tolerable. So if there are alignment mechanics they need to be solid mechanics, not crappy ones like in 3e.

Or likewise paying money for no mechanics like in 4e

Sometimes that story is short and sometimes it is long. They can be tragic, comic or absurd. Some teach. Some are just to fill the empty spaces in our lives. Rarely it is a transcendent fugue only half remembered but wondered at. And frequently: "it is a tale told by an idiot, full of sound and fury, signifying nothing." -William Shakespeare

I'd pay a bit more if there was a guarantee that alignment mechanics weren't in the game.

Some people seem to have not read - or not understood - the OP. The point is that alignment has become an inextricable part of D&D culture, particularly in the eyes of the world at large. That's correct, and WotC, in their apparent push to revisit the tropes which most mean "D&D-ness" in the public eye, is likely going to use the 9-alignment grid as the default system. Anyone can certainly homebrew it out, but there's little chance that the militant cries of done people to eliminate it from the game will be heeded.

Oh no they read it they just don't agree that alignment is an inextricable part of D&D culture like the 6 ability scores or the use of a d20.  Also the second section of your post is wrong, it is being set up so it can be ignored.  See multiple things written by all the designers.

I too would donate to ALFF (the Alignment Funeral Fund).

I'm not paying money for the revenge of 3e part 2.

Alignment can be in there as an RP aide and/or optional bit.

However any mechanics that work with alignment need to be well designed.

We don't need to kill it.  Just take away its badge and gun.

They have the right to be wrong.  I would bet that more people know what "Lawful Good" means than could name the 6 ability scores.  It's part of the culture.  What its place is in the game remains to be seen.
