There's the problem they run in to. If the core doesn't support all playstyles, I don't see it being successful. Their entire sales pitch has been support for players of every edition. Vancian casting is one of those things that is either loved or hated.
BTW, I still view the sorcerer as vancian. Anything that relies entirely on daily resources is a huge turn off for me. Spell slots and spells per day, specifically.
This is why I think the core needs to be available in a box set that has this extra stuff in it. Or you can just buy a regular phb.

I'm sorry, I refuse to play a game where vancian casting is the only casting system for Wizards. That's a simple fact. Its not panicking or "sky is falling" or whatever. Its just a simple statement of fact.
Excellent. Then tell them so in feedback.
I thought that the smiley at the end of my posts would convey that.
Your smiley has no meaning since you use it in almost every post. At this point it's just a sig.
I am telling them that and getting yelled at by people that don't think its valid feedback...
Correction. You're telling US that and hoping they see. There are proper avenues for feedback that guarantee that your feedback is going to be seen, and these threads aren't it. If you talk about it here, don't count on them noticing, but do count on us talking to you about it

What? Ok, so why don't you stop commenting on the game here and only put your valid feedback in the surveys. No don't want to do that? See how it feels.
Its valid feedback that some people don't like. That's it. Nothing more...

Me too, I agree completely.
If the game doesn't have an option to play a Wizard or Wizard like class (Sorcerer and Warlock have their own identity) without using the vancian casting system, then I'm simply not goin to buy it. That isn't said with anger or rage or "the sky is falling" attitude or whatever. Its actually said with regret for what 5E could have been or could possibly be, but which right now its failing to achieve...

Not really. When I post here I do so to talk to you guys, not WoTC officials.

It's not feedback if they don't know about it.

The core will not support all playstyles, and no assertion of such was ever made, and such a premise is totally absurd. Modules will be created to support various edition playstyles. Modules. Modules. Modules. Why is this confusing?
Sky is falling is probably the wrong way to put it, a better way is we left for vacation 5 minutes ago and you guys are already asking "Are we there yet?"
I guess I don't see how the core could prevent a functional 4ed style adaptation. Almost all the rules I see that are present, just need to be 'upgraded' to 4e style. There is nothing prevents a module from saying, ignore this rule, and replace with this rule, if there even is an established conflict.
It's easy to create an AED wizard with a Vancian magic system. 4e Wizards had specific spells just like Vancian does, power levels varied on which slot the A E or D that it was. Vancian magic provides spells of different power levels. THe spell list that organizes spells into levels in the front of the magic section. It would be easy to create a new list AED progression, why does everybody act like its so impossible?
I want rules for it also, but why woudl I expect them to make rules for my optional wizard before they even finished the core 5e wizard. THey are going to do that first becuase it shapes the spells, from that they can see what kind of balance the need to have a good AED progression for 4e adaptation.
So no... We are not there yet, but I'll let you knwi when we are close.
My mind is a deal-breaker.

If we never express our dislike of the curent system, then how are the developers to know that we won't buy the game if they don't include an option for us?
They've also never said they aren't already working on modules. In fact I have a feeling they will separate out what we have now into modules. They even hinted at this in a recent article.
If they tack on an optional module after the game is done, its likely to be poorly done and may not be balanced properly. Its best to do them side by side for the best results.
As to you letting me know anything, are you by chance in the friends and family play test? Are you an employee of WotC? Do you have some kind of insider knowledge? Well then why would I listen to a word you have to say on the subject?

@lokaire- Zago is either an insider or is really, really attached to his version of D&D Next at the expense of all else..

I am compelled to argue with people like Zago because they keep running around telling people not to give valid feedback. I want it to be known if you won't play 5E because of a lack of something or something as the default. Speak up and let the developers know in any way you can. If 5E fails D&D gets shelved and we all lose...

Actually this is a problem for me, I haven't received one survey so far even though I've downloaded every play-test packet. Farther every time I vote on the legends and lore articles, despite using different internet browsers, It hasn't registered.
