Agree with those who dislike advantage. It's too extreme. I could see using it if there's a lesser from (add or subtract a d4 or d6, for instance) that shows up more often, with advantage being reserved for things that have been bigger bonuses in the past, but not as it is.

More sex and gender equality and racial equality shouldn't even be an argument--it should simply be an assumption for any RPG that wants to stay relevant in the 21st century.

In last night's session I had a player that had Advantage roll two 1's. I ruled that the orc he was battling swatted his bow, cracking it in two. It was a great moment.

Don't suppose you could explain what is fun about things like that, could you?

I've never been able to even remotely fathom the worth of critical fumbles.

Am I using Advantage/Disadvatage wrong?

Aside from abilities that specify taking advantage/disadvantage I mostly use my personal discretion to use it ...I think its a great DM tool for rewarding great roleplaying for say a well executed Bluff or a Diplomacy (not at home, can't remeber actual relevant skill in 5e) check along with a paticularily awesome speech (actually if its good enough sometimes I tell them not to bother rolling)

Also if they really botch their roleplaying or use a skill that might actually cause things to worsen I give the disadvantage for example I had one player same something to a lady in a way that made her think her husband was dead (she was already crying because her daughter was kidnapped) than when he failed that the other player rolled intimidate...so in both cases I told them they had disadvantage on the roll....luckily the third player was able to calm her down

Mind you my group has as much fun when rolling 1s as they do with 20s and while we love the feel of a powerful character (which I have a personal obsession with making characters..not powerful ones necessarily just making them) we are far more into the roleplaying
