All he's saying is wait and see, by your own admission. He didn't try to sell 5E to Krahuluk in any real way. He could have said 5E will do X, Y, and Z for you, and that's why you should play it instead of 4E. He(and others) have said as much in regards to earlier editions.

There was another post!   Gah!  Not only can't you bother to listen to the podcast, you can't even bother to read the whole damnable thread before going off on your little tirades.  Farewell, tco, at this point, I'll think a little less of Mearls if he does try to address any concerns you have.  Don Quixote wouldn't even tilt at such windmills.

I already responded to the other post, earlier.

When directly asked why a 4E fan should care about 5E, he answers "wait and see, if you don't like it you can continue to play 4E". That's pretty much a non-answer in my opinion, compared to how 5E has been sold to fans of other editions of D&D.

In the other post, Mike asks them what they would like to see improved about 4E, and a personal issue was given and Mike then addresses what is in the grand scheme of things a non-issue.

Hence, more of the same nonsense.

We have:

1. A long history of pandering towards earlier edition sentiments at the expense of 4E sentiments
2. The direct "I like 4E, why should I be interested in 5E?" question being essentially dodged
3. Answering a personal issue not typical of 4E concerns about 5E

  1. We have no such thing.  We do have yo ubeing consistently offended by things you misread, misheard, or accepted secondhand in the face of people with firsthand information telling you otherwise.
  2. He did the exact oppositi of dodge the question.  He answered the question specifically asked of him.  You don't like what you imagine secondhand the question and answer to have been, but that doesn't make it a dodge.  It just makes your response to it completely irrational.
  3. You are not the spokesperson for "typical 4e".  You don't get to claim that mantle just because you're the most strident in not accepting anything less than total capitulation to your ever-increasingly ridiculous demands.  You don't feel your needs are addressed.  You don't get to pretend that you are legion.  Not in any way that counts as less than laughable.

Specifically in regards to the bolded part:

Are you really trying to suggest that 5E's promotion to this point hasn't been biased in favor of fans of earlier editions, and that what specifically been said about the 5E system and what has been shown in the released playtest document hasn't been slanted towards the flavor or pre-4E D&D?

You know, they've only released part 1 of a 4 part series... Maybe some people are being a little quick to jump to conclusions on whether or not Mike can sell D&D Next to the "4e stalwart", the "casual gamer" and the "gaming omnivore". Perhaps it might be best to hold all judgement pertaining to success/failure until there is, in fact, a conclusion? Just saying, could be a slow play.

Regarding Mike Mearls addressing the concerns of the 4e crowd at large remains somewhat outside the purview of this thread. (Legitimate, though they might be).

I've seen too much I dislike in 5E to be patient or positive at this point. I could understand it being sensible to "wait and see" if it wasn't for all of that.

So, if I might ask, what are you trying to "be" at this point?

Expressing dissatisfaction in the hopes of informing future changes.

It'd help if your dissatisfaction were based on actually reading/listening to what they say, though.  They're much more likely to listen to you if you do that.
