Even though I like a lot of what PAthfinder did (Especially their use of muticultural monsters like Grootslang, The Divs, The Kami, the Tsimtsimtl, the Adlet, the Tupilaqs, ect), I do find it kidna funny that something in their Advanced Races Guide kinda rips off what Wizards did. Because, if you look at the Samsaran, it looks and sounds an awful lot like the Deva minus the Aasimar influence.

Samsaran were based off of Saṃsāra.

I knew that, but it does seem a bit suspicious that they decided to base a race off that gimmick well after Wizards did theirs.

What has been will be again, what has been done will be done again; there is nothing new under the sun.

All characters have a story. Spoiler: Show
Sometimes that story is short and sometimes it is long. They can be tragic, comic or absurd. Some teach. Some are just to fill the empty spaces in our lives. Rarely it is a transcendent fugue only half remembered but wondered at. And frequently: "it is a tale told by an idiot, full of sound and fury, signifying nothing." -William Shakespeare

I don't think it was intentional and even if they did that would be nothing new in game design anyway. I really don't see where the Deva without Aasimar influence bears much fruit in your comment without knowing what you actually mean by that. Perhaps a better explaination might change that but I see no resemblence between them. The Samsaran race was introduced in the Tian Xia products, Dragon Empires Primer and Dragon Empires Gazetteer, which were both released well before the Advanced Race Guide. By your logic it seems as if Paizo shouldn't be allowed to release anything that was ever mentioned in DnD, even if it respects the OGL.

I don't want 5th edition to be anything like Pathfinder.

I enjoy Pathfinder very much and I play it because of the experience that "Pathfinder" gives me.

I want 5th edition to give me a different experience.

Yeah, pretty much.  I think most of what WotC should take notes from in regards to Pathfinder/Paizo is their business model and customer support.  Much as I love Pathfinder at the moment, the borderline exponential math involved in 3E didn't get fixed.  High level play is still unwieldy, and there's still way too much assumed scaling (players should have X amount of wealth by this level, possess Y amount of magical gear, etc.) for my tastes.  It is still the best "D&D" on the market at the moment, for my money, but 5E/Next stands a good chance of prying me away from playing PF exclusively if they don't decide to do something drastic and silly.

The bold part says it all.
