A few caveats here. I know this isn't the final format for monsters, and I know that monster design is still evolving, but I'm really excited about the new edition of D&D (which I sincerely hope will drop 'Next' from the title). At any rate, below is a succubus proposal -- one of my favourite monsters of the game. I really tried to keep the design simple and avoid special trait bloat, which is seemingly a design concern. That being said, I already dropped several abilities from this build, like at-will etherealness, and plane shifting, and telepathy. Below is my first draft. You will notice I left HP and XP blank. If anybody has reverse engineered the formula for those values, please let me know! Thanks. The succubus (incubus) was UPDATED 30 June 2012. Succubus (Incubus) Chaotic Evil Medium humanoid (demon)Initiative +2 AC 12 HP ?? Str 12 (+1) Dex 14 (+2) Con 13 (+1) Int 14 (+2) Wis 16 (+3) Cha 20 (+5) ----- Space/Reach 5 feet/5 feet Speed 30 feet (fly 50 feet) Melee Attack claws +3/+3 (1d4 + 1 slashing/1d4 + 1 slashing) Special Traits darkvision 60 feet; resistance to weapons that are not magical or cold iron; immune to fire; humanoid disguise; mesmerizing voice; sadistic embrace XP ?? Humanoid Disguise A succubus can indefinitely transform into an alluring humanoid woman (or man) of any Medium or Small race. She can also incorporate her claws and wings into these forms as desired. Mesmerizing Voice A succubus can charm any living creature that can hear her speaking, and of whom she is aware, with a Charisma versus Wisdom contest. The charm lasts until the target is attacked by the succubus or one of her allies. The target always hears the succubus in a language they can understand. ...or...Mesmerizing Voice A succubus can dominate a target who can hear her speaking with a Charisma versus Wisdom contest. If the creature is already charmed by the succubus with Sadistic Embrace, the Wisdom roll is made with disadvantage. If the succubus succeeds, the target can be forced to move towards and attack anybody she designates on their next turn. The dominate ends when the target successfully attacks one their allies or the succubus or one of her allies attacks the target. The target always hears the succubus in a language they can understand. Sadistic Embrace A succubus can drain life with a kiss. If a succubus hits with both claw attacks against the same target, she can automatically lean in for a kiss. Whenever a succubus kisses a living creature, under any circumstances, she may reduce it's maximum hit points by 3. This effect lasts until the creature takes a long rest. If this effect reduces a creature's maximum hit points to 0, the creature dies. Any target kissed by a succubus is also charmed (DC 15) and will submit to another kiss. The effect otherwise lasts until the target is attacked by the succubus or one of her allies.

I know it is a D&D staple the the draining kiss always seemed off to me, like they realized it needed a threatening attack and they said hey level drains are scary. I always felt that the point of the succubus is it got you to do some evil crap while under its control tarnishing your soul and sending you to hell in the afterlife. If it just kills you by draining your levels what exactly did it accomplish on the whole tempt people to evil side of things. Further more I'd define the charm as a non-magical effect, just a its that damn sexy effect so a failed save shows that you were tempted to evil not that magic overpowered you. Side, side note, I hate that elves are immune to charms so for some reason a succubus would not work on them.
