"The goal is to remove mechanics from alignment. It's a key part of the world, but not the rules or spells."
By all the powers in every good-aligned plane and several of the shadier ones, I love you, Mike Mearls.

I cannot share so much enthusiasm, but nevertheless it's a good news.
No more vancian.
No "edition war" for me, thank'you.

This is horrible news. I wish Mike would give the reigns to someone else.

I saw this interview and reply also by Mearls, and it made me so happy.
If I could travel back in time I would slap the back of the heads of the D&D creators of alignment, and vanacian magic.

Well, that's one thing out of a list of many I've been hoping they've come to realize by now. One of the big ones, actually.
Well, I suppose "realize" isn't the best way to put it: "continue on from the previous edition's progress" is a better way of doing so.
I, for one, welcome our Evil Paladin overlords (who previously were our overlords)...
Knowing is Half the Battle. The Other Half is VIOLENCE.
Imagine a lightsaber duel between Optimus Prime and Batman. You're welcome.

YES!!!!
"...and let the name anti-paladin fade away into obscurity! Mwhahahaha!!"
On a more serious note, hearing this news makes me not even care what they do with Alignement. A 9-point or 5-point or 100-point or 3-point alignment system makes little difference to me now that it's been completely removed from mechanics side. And it gives credence to my friend's alignment description of Good-ish

Which, honestly, is a more realistic way of describing alignment. I think that I am Good-ish; I just can't decide on Chaotic, Neutral, or Lawful (which thus infers that I'm neutral good, but then there's this and that and whatnot.....).
Gold is for the mistress, silver for the maid Copper for the craftsman, cunning at his trade." "Good!" said the Baron, sitting in his hall, "But Iron -- Cold Iron -- is master of them all." -Kipling Defenders: We ARE the wall! I've replaced the previous Edition Warring line in my sig with this one, because honestly, everybody needs to work together to make the D&D they like without trampling on somebody else's D&D. Miss d20 Modern? Take a look at Dias Ex Machina Game's UltraModern 4e! I am a hero, not a chump.
